RBC CANADIAN OPEN

June 5, 2025

Paul Peterson

Caledon, Ontario, Canada

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. Opening round 65. How would you assess your round?

PAUL PETERSON: Great. Not as great from tee to green. We'll do a little bit of work there. Or off the tee at least. Hit a lot of really, really good wedge shots and made a punch of putts, which I have not been doing this year. So it's nice to finally see.

Q. Of the birdies, or even maybe was par save or with the putter, what sticks out in particular?

PAUL PETERSON: Holing out for eagle on 18 was pretty fun. I'd hit a good wedge shot in there on 14, the par-3, and almost made that. So it was cool to see one go in.

Q. You mentioned earlier you made a putter change. What led to that, and what did you change to?

PAUL PETERSON: Just a cold putter. I liked the look of it. It just didn't seem like it was really rolling in end over end. It was a great putter; won with it last year.

Like I said, I'm not really much of an equipment changer. So I wanted to stick with it and kind of stick through it.

Recently went into TaylorMade Spider and have really liked the way it's felt and the forgiveness of it and how I aim it. So that was a positive change for me.

Q. When did that putter make it in the bag?

PAUL PETERSON: I didn't -- I brought it to Colonial. I was first alternate there, didn't get through. I was putting with it really well there. I was hoping to get in. Played with it at sectionals on Monday, and today was really good.

Q. New course. Oftentimes seeing new courses throughout the season on your schedule. New course for everyone. What's the mentality of how you address this week?

PAUL PETERSON: I've been to a lot of countries and played a lot of golf all over the world. It always feels like a new course for me. Whether I'm changing, going from the Asian Tour to the European Tour, Korn Ferry changed up quite a few courses. I feel like I've gotten pretty good at learning a new course fast.

I didn't see a couple of the holes after sectionals, and then the rain that came in yesterday I was going to go see a couple of the holes on the front side. I got a pretty experienced caddie, and I said, hey, just get me through holes 3 through 7 today.

I hadn't seen those yet. But we did a good job. We stuck in there and made some birdies after some bogeys, which like I said, wasn't happening earlier in the year. It was like make a bogey and make another bogey instead of making a bogey and making a birdie to keep yourself level. So it was really nice.

It just seemed like every time I made a mistake, I was able to get right back in it.

Q. What's the rest of the afternoon look like for you?

PAUL PETERSON: A little bit of practice and some lunch and relax.
