Quick Quotes
Q. Opening round 61. What was working so well for you today?
THORBJØRN OLESEN: Obviously I played great, but my putting was exceptional today. Don't think I missed any putts really out there. I definitely holed some long ones as well. It was nice to see everything go in.
Q. Had you been working on anything in particular with your putter? What was it like to see that coming into action during the round?
THORBJØRN OLESEN: Not really actually. I took a week off after the PGA Championship, didn't play much golf.
Yeah, I came out to the qualifying here, and I felt like I played great golf there Monday and obviously qualified. So that gave me some confidence going into this week for sure. Yeah, I took that with me.
Q. Coming off of that, were you tired? What was that like on Monday? And congrats on qualifying in the Open.
THORBJØRN OLESEN: It was a long day obviously. It makes it easier when you're playing well. Yeah, it's a fight. There's a lot of guys, and you know you have to shoot some low numbers to be able to qualify. Like I said, it definitely gave me some confidence for this week.
Q. Speaking of golf's longest day, you essentially clinched your spot in the U.S. Open or guaranteed your spot in the U.S. Open with a 15-foot birdie putt on the last of your 36 holes that day. How much confidence or momentum with the flat stick did you take from that moment into today?
THORBJØRN OLESEN: I took a lot from that last putt. I didn't putt that well that day actually. I felt like I played really good, but like holing a putt like that when you know you have to make it, it gives you a lot of belief in yourself. Yeah, I definitely took that with me. It obviously worked out great today.
Q. What was really the trick out there today for you? On the greens, they're large, undulating greens. Obviously the moisture in the greens also makes things a bit more challenging. How were you able to get the speed and the feel right?
THORBJØRN OLESEN: Obviously they're a little bit softer than what they were yesterday. I didn't actually see the front nine until today. That worked out well maybe not to know any of the holes really.
Sometimes you just have a feel of the greens and you just look at it, and you can sort of see the lines easy, and that was one of those days for me today, I think.
