Quick Quotes
Q. Similar questions, but just what was the mindset coming into today after yesterday's round, and how do you make that switch?
KIARA ROMERO: I think just knowing that I was literally in dead last kind of freed me up into knowing I had absolutely nothing to lose and just playing my game. Knowing I've been playing some good golf. I made the cut to get here.
I knew I had it in me and I just tried to stay patient and put that round behind me.
Q. Were you aware that this is the lowest score shot by an am in the final round of a U.S. Open?
KIARA ROMERO: No, not at all.
Q. What did you make of that?
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah, that's pretty amazing knowing the round I had yesterday and coming off that and flipping it around and just changing everything, the mindset and all the negativity, just flipping it around and going out there and knowing I can shoot a low round.
Q. You mentioned yesterday that your brain wasn't working quite right.
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah.
Q. When you stepped on the first tee today did you know it was going to be a different kind of round, or was there a point during the round where it started to click for you?
KIARA ROMERO: I think getting through the first three holes; then like things were starting to roll and we were playing like a pretty fast pace, so everything was just kind of going one after another.
Yeah, I think it was just a lot easier. Like everything was just coming to me. I could read the greens and I knew what club I was hitting. Yesterday all those things were just a mystery to me. It was like I've never played golf before, yeah.
Just happens I guess.
Q. Final putt just dropped; just got of the course. What do you make of your experience at the U.S. Open in Erin Hills this week?
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah, I think I'm just really proud of the way I flipped it around and just stayed patient with it. Making the cut and then shooting like one of the worst rounds in the past few years was pretty tough.
Coming out today and just putting all that behind me, it's definitely something to take away from this tournament and learn from, yeah.
Q. Can you just talk about the course today? What was the final round setup like? Did that factor into your approach at all?
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah. I feel like there were some pretty nasty pins out there, some mean spots. If you miss you could be 50 yards from the green or in some thick rough.
So I didn't really like try to play too safe just knowing I was like pretty far off the lead and like in dead last. So I was like, you know what? I'm just going to go for it, hit it at every pin, and just see what happens. Yeah, worked out.
