Quick Quotes

Q. Just take us through your round today.

HAILEE COOPER: Yeah, I started off hot. Made two birdies. Went for it in two on No. 1 and then made a good like 20-, 22-footer on 2, which was nice.

I was just striking the ball really well, hitting a lot of fairways, hitting it close, giving myself a lot of chances. Didn't make a lot today, which was fine. The pins were really tough.

It was like somebody was upset with someone, the way they set the pins. It was really tough. Just playing smart, and luckily I have a good caddie on the bag, so we were able to get some good plays here and there, keeping it away from trouble. But overall good day, good ball-striking.

Q. Talk a little bit about the course today. Obviously a little bit better round than yesterday. How did that change things out there for you?

HAILEE COOPER: Well, it was nice weather but it was just really tough. The course dried out. It's been wet just with the rain they got last week, a little bit of drizzle yesterday; today it was definitely dried out. You could tell they double cut and rolled them. Greens were rolling quicker. Fairways were tight. Rough is thicker; they're not cutting it.

It was a really good test today. It was really tough.

Q. Talk about what it means to be back at the U.S. Women's Open for a second time.

HAILEE COOPER: Well, it's always an honor to play in a major. It's always an honor to play in the U.S. Women's Open. Obviously I'm from America, from the USA, so it's a big deal. I think this is the biggest tournament in women's golf. Just to be able to get to play in it is an honor anyways, and being able to make the cut and just play the weekend is even better.

Q. Can you just talk about kind of the role Texas A&M had in your golf career and how it shaped you into who you are today?

HAILEE COOPER: Well, I was going to quit before I went to A&M. I was thinking about putting up the clubs and decided to go play there, and just the area, people, teammates, coaches, just kind of refueled my fire for golf.

I found out I really loved it, so continued playing, and here I am. I wouldn't be here today without Texas A&M.

Q. It sounded like your coach at A&M helped you find a caddie for this week.

HAILEE COOPER: Yeah, so my coach, G, Gerrod Chadwell, from Texas A&M, he's married to Stacy Lewis, and Stacy is not playing this week, so I've got Stacy's caddie, Travis. He's on the bag.

So I just sent him a text, I'd like a good caddie for the Open. Do you and Stacy have any ideas for me? And he texted me about a week later saying, Travis is ready to go, you're good, you'll meet him there. So I got his number, and he's awesome. He's been awesome. It's a lot of fun.
