Erin Hills GC

Flash Interview

THE MODERATOR: Mao Saigo, 6-under 66. Can you talk us through the round today?

MAO SAIGO: Today's condition was better than yesterday. That's why I made a lot better shots and a lot better putts than yesterday, and that brought me a better score and results.

Q. You are halfway to Brooks Koepka's total of 16-under in 2017. Is that kind of score possible on this course on the weekend?

MAO SAIGO: It is very difficult to compare. All I can say is that I will do my best, and as a result I would like to make a good result.

Q. You caught a bad break on 15. Can you walk us through what happened there and how did you try to bounce like mentally like you did?

MAO SAIGO: I think that you mentioned the 14th hole. Yes, I did a pretty good third shot. It was very good. However, I missed birdie chance. But I thought that was not my mistake, I just thought to myself that it was just unlucky, and then I just changed my mind. It was unlucky and went through.

Q. How did you feel differently coming into this week as a major champion?

MAO SAIGO: For the last two days, I was able to play with great players, and I feel grateful for that opportunity, and that was really refreshing to me.

Q. Just the experience from having won Chevron, what did that do for your confidence going into this tournament?

MAO SAIGO: Yes, I think that I was able to be more confident about my judgments that I make. However, I would like to play my play rather than thinking about changing myself. I want to do and play my play.

Q. What did you do on the weekend at Chevron that you'll try to draw on to do well here this weekend?

MAO SAIGO: What I think the most important thing in the major is that I have to make the one stroke, one hit be very valuable and I have to reset my mind and then approach to each stroke.
