Q. Saw you had a nice laugh with Lexi on 18. Could you tell us about it.

NELLY KORDA: Jason and I just had a really awkward exchange there where he tried to hug me but I didn't hug him back. It was all just kind of awkward. She saw it, and she was like, I really hope the cameras got that, which I really hope they didn't. It was just awkward.

Q. 16 pars, is that more frustrating, or does it make you happy? What's that like?

NELLY KORDA: It depends. If you're not striking it well, then that makes you happy because you got a lot of up-and-downs. I was striking it pretty well out there; just under-read some putts and burned a couple edges too.

I think I'm happy with it. Obviously I wish the ball found the bottom of the cup a little bit more. Overall, I can't complain. First day of the U.S. Open, it's all about patience. I'm striking it pretty well, so hopefully I can carry that into the next couple days.

Q. Actually just off that, how did you like your putting stroke today? Is that something you kind of feel good about going into the morning tomorrow?

NELLY KORDA: I was hitting my putts really good. Wherever I was kind of looking, rolling it over my intermediate target, that's where I was hitting it. I have no complaints. I will say I didn't really hit a bad putt at all.

Maybe I hit one or two loose shots, but overall I felt like I played well, which obviously on like maybe 13, I did say to Jason I'm a little frustrated just because I feel like I should be playing a little differently with the way I'm striking it.

But he did make sure that he -- he reassured me that it's all about patience.

Q. After the first round, what are the impressions of the course and impressions of the Wisconsin golf fan base as well?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, it's great. Enjoyed playing in front of a great crowd. Obviously a great group too, alongside Charley and Lexi. Hopefully we can show off some good golf the next couple of days, but the golf course is immaculate.
