Flash Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Davis Riley is here with us now at the 107th PGA Championship.

A heck of a week for you. What are your thoughts right now?

DAVIS RILEY: Super excited the way I finished. It was kind of a gut punch what happened on 7. I knew it put me out of position to win, but I knew there was a lot to play for, and I bounced back really good.

Yeah, if you'd have told me at the beginning of the week I'd be in the second to last group on Sunday, I'd be stoked. Very fun week, a lot to learn from, and I'm already itching for the next major.

Q. Next level now, second in a major. If you compare that to other majors you've played before, you're taking things to a new dimension in a way.

DAVIS RILEY: Yeah, I had a pretty good finish at the PGA Championship in 2022. And that was really my only time that I've been in, I would say, contention, contention in a major. This being the second one.

Yeah, I'm starting to grab a lot more experience in some of these final groups in the majors. So this is a big step forward for me. I've been trying to find -- I've been in some pretty good form the last two months. It was a struggle at the beginning of the year, but I'm starting to see a lot of good golf shots and holing a lot of good putts.

Hopefully this thing can kind of catapult and get my season going.

Q. When you were checking the leaderboard on the last few holes, there was a lot of movement.

DAVIS RILEY: I definitely was keeping a little bit of a watch. I saw Scheffler wasn't really coming back late like some of the guys were. I saw Rahm and some other guys kind of fall back.

Yeah, I knew my chances coming in were going to be pretty slim. I just tried to make birdies. It's a tough finish. I don't think any amount of lead is comfortable enough on 16, 17, and 18.

I knew, if I could try to play them in the red or get three birdies on them, maybe a chance. Yeah, I was honestly just trying to have a good finish and make a good week out of it. I fought back really good after what had happened on the front nine. I'm pretty proud the way I did that.

Q. And the last thing is kind of your outlook for the rest of the season. Majors coming. How do you stay in this position?

DAVIS RILEY: I don't know the next major -- I guess it's the U.S. Open. I'll have to see. I don't know if this gets me in or what I'll have to do. I'm not in it at the moment. Hopefully I am, and hopefully it will springboard me and I can kind of get in contention more on some of these majors.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to going to next week and trying to defend in Fort Worth. I'm excited I'm in good form and going back to a place I really love. I'm looking forward to getting back to Fort Worth and trying to defend.
