THE G4D OPEN

May 17, 2025

Brendan Lawlor

Woburn, England, UK

Press Conference

Q History maker, you've won two of these now. How good does that feel?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: It feels unbelievable. I played extremely solid all week. My game is in fantastic shape. It's such a tight course. You can't go in trouble, and I stayed out of trouble a lot over the three days. Quite proud of my performance today. I was very, very solid, and I know Lachlan went on a really good run the front nine to putt a bit of pressure on. So I stuck to my guns and kept hitting greens and fairways trying to make par.

That's what I did. A wee slipup on 17. Hasn't been good to me in the past, but I had a nice buffer and I'm absolutely chuffed.

Q How special is it? You handled the added pressure.

BRENDAN LAWLOR: Yeah, it's a shame Kip couldn't play this week. But the leaderboard is stacked with new players, and special, special talents, as well. So I'm getting old. Some of them boys are 18 and I'm 28 now. So it's nice to put them in their place every once in a while.

But no, I'm delighted seeing the new guys come in, absolute flushers. They are definitely going to be here in the future.

Q You talked about your experience, and they may have struggled with nerves at the start, a couple dropped shots, and you had a couple birdies in the first six holes. Is that the start you dreamed of?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: A hundred percent. I said to myself I played aggressive all week; I'm not going to stop now.

I hit driver on some holes you wouldn't hit driver, and today I had done the same. I just kept hitting driver, kept hitting fairways. Because my philosophy was, if I hit 5-wood and miss it, make me miss the fairway, that would make me more angry. If I can miss closer to the green, it's quite bouncy, so you can almost chip something out.

I kept with the same mindset as the first two days. Just go out, try and shoot a low number around even par, and I definitely wouldn't be far.

Q Lachlan was close at 4-under.

BRENDAN LAWLOR: I knew he was chasing because Dad actually told me, "Lachlan is three back" on 9, and I birdied 6 and 7 to go 1-under for my day.

I said, if I can make pars and bring this in 1-under par, he'd have to go really, really low to beat me. I'm delighted.

Q You seem to have embraced this championship. And you've talked about it so positively. How good is it to get that second win?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: It's unreal. And I just want to thank Woburn, because this is the final year. You turned this event into something really special. The course is close for us. The food is fantastic. The volunteers are fantastic. It's a credit to everyone involved to make this event so special.

So it's a shame we can't come back here. I'm not sure where we're going next but it's going to -- hopefully it's as special as this one.
