Flash Quotes

Q. How would you sum up the round? Secondly, how would you sum up your position going into the weekend?

JON RAHM: I think I'm in good position. Adding to the fact that I feel like I'm getting better, more confident with the swing. I made a lot of good swings out there today and gave myself plenty of chances.

Even though I made a really good par putt on 11, and the one on 8, I really didn't make much else today. I hit a lot of good putts and they just didn't roll in.

So hopeful going into the weekend only six shots back, and if I can start the first few holes better than I played so far, make a few birdies and get a round going and post something around 3-, 4-under, which I don't feel like it's something too much to ask. I feel like believe it or not, it's doable.

Q. Are you surprised how the leaderboard has shaken out in terms of there's not many major champions at the top?

JON RAHM: I haven't looked.

Q. You know what I'm saying, though, right? There's five in the top 37 players of guys that have won majors, including yourself.

JON RAHM: Really? In the top 37 is 1-under?

Q. 2-under.

JON RAHM: I know Scottie's there, myself, Fitzy.

Q. Six then. I forgot Fitz. Keegan, Adam.

JON RAHM: I don't need to know --

Q. And Bryson.

JON RAHM: I don't need to know the whole list.

Q. So six.

JON RAHM: Yeah, it can be. Yes and no. It's a difficult golf course. I can see how somebody can shoot 5, 6-under fairly easily, and I can easily see how a round gets going the wrong way and you shoot 3-, 4-over. I don't really ever think about how many major champions are out there, so I couldn't tell you if this is normal or not.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those are 1-under to 1-over, that are good players, major champions, get a good run on the weekend, and tomorrow get a little bit more of a benign golf course and be in the afternoon, get the round going.

Q. Does a string of pars, that's not necessarily a bad thing, right?

JON RAHM: Not here, no. I mean, you can say you give up shots on 10, 14, 15, but you're definitely gaining on possibly every other hole basically. Definitely on the last three. The last three, if you par the last three, it's at least a stroke and a half maybe. This morning 17 was playing 3.6, and 18 was ridiculously high.

I would never be -- I'm going to add 9 into that. That's another hole on which I'm gaining. I think, if you play the last ten holes like that at even par, you're not losing strokes in the field. The way I played them, I had enough birdie opportunities to maybe play them under par. You can never be disappointed by just shooting under par in general.

Q. Good showing by the Legion XIII guys, right?

JON RAHM: Tyrrell's 2, Tom's 2 as well, so we're all 2.

Q. Tom and Tyrrell are 1.

JON RAHM: Oh, I was going to say if we all play together tomorrow I can get some music maybe.
