Flash Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Tyler Collet is with us now at the 107th PGA Championship. Tyler, a 73 for you today. How are you feeling overall?

TYLER COLLET: 50 percent. I would say I left a few shots out there. Obviously a little unfortunate hiccup on 11, a couple missed putts early. The chip-in on 12 was really good. Obviously a little disappointing with the lip-out on 13. But yeah, it was mixed feelings for the day. I'll say that.

Q. You did very well in the pro championship. There's no illusions coming here; this is a major, a different story. How did you prepare yourself technically and mentally for this?

TYLER COLLET: Good question. To be honest, I think if I treat it any differently, then it's just going to add more pressure for my brain and it's going to make me play worse. I try to treat it as the same level opportunity. Obviously it's not, but it's just a game. I'm out there to compete and play my best, but I'm also out there to try to have fun, too.

That's my goal. I'm here to have fun. I'm here to compete and play my best, and we'll see where I stack up at the end.

Q. Anything that got you about the conditions, that was especially tough today?

TYLER COLLET: Yeah, with all the rain, I thought they might just barely top the rough a little bit, and they didn't, which this golf course is long and you just have to hit fairways, and if you miss fairways, it's brutal.

Yeah, the rough seemed extra thick today for some reason just because of the rain.

Q. What's the best part of your game and what do you think could take you to the weekend here?

TYLER COLLET: Yeah, honestly, I think it's a combination of I'm a pretty decent putter. I read the greens pretty well. Late in the day today, a lot of spike marks around the holes, so that was a challenge. But that's what you get for luck of the draw late in the afternoon.

I think honestly, it's my kind of will and determination not to ever give up. I think that might take me to the weekend. That would be nice.

Q. You're out here this week representing John's Island Club as a PGA of America golf professional. Can you speak to some of the support you've gotten from the club and friends and family throughout the past week and a half?

TYLER COLLET: Yeah, absolutely. John's Island Club and the whole John's Island family has been incredible. I wouldn't be here, wouldn't be sitting in this chair without them, and it's not just them, it's my family at home. It's all my sponsors -- my agent, sponsors, Guardian, Notify, Journey Strategic Wealth, John's Island, Peter Millar. All of them, I'm so happy to have them in my corner. I said in an interview last week, it's so cool to have all the support that I didn't even know I had.

A lot of people would think that adds more pressure, but I don't. I think it kind of makes me think if I play bad, I just have more love and more support. I use it as fuel and fire and just take it with me.

Q. You had the near hole-in-one. Talk about what you saw there, and can you explain the high five situation with your caddie?

TYLER COLLET: Yeah, it was honestly -- we were kind of back and forth between 5 and 6. It was like 194 to carry the bunker uphill but it was playing downwind. It was kind of like a perfect 6.

I hit it just a hair thin, and it landed in the perfect spot. I honestly thought it went in. I heard the roars kind of build and then kind of go like, aww.

The high five was my caddie's fault. He purposefully juked me out and I'm a little upset about it, but we'll get him back tomorrow.
