Q. A solid start. Are you pleased with that effort?
LACHLAN WOOD: I'll take it. Wasn't the best round. Definitely left a few shot outs there, but it's going to be in the mix I think.
Q. Colder conditions than you expected today?
LACHLAN WOOD: Yeah, I thought the sun would burn up the cloud and it would heat up, and I would have a shirt on by about the eighth hole. But the jumper stayed on all day.
Q. Conditions, pretty playable out there, firm and bouncy course?
LACHLAN WOOD: It suits me. I'd rather it sort of fast and fiery, firm, get a bit of run. Makes it a little bit harder in a way but it's more linksy, I suppose.
Q. Good finish last year, top five. Keen for the same this year or go even better than that?
LACHLAN WOOD: I'm here to win it, definitely. It's just the putter has got in the way every year so a little bit of extra help this year here with one of the coaches and hopefully that's the difference.
Q. Obviously Kip sadly pulling out with injury but I guess it gives you more opportunity as well?
LACHLAN WOOD: It's sad to hear he can't play. Every time we play against Kipp, it's great for the game. But I feel like whoever wins, wins.
Q. Tell us about the travel getting over here and how hard it is for you to adjust?
LACHLAN WOOD: We're coming over, unfortunately the Australians are geographically handicapped coming over, such a long way. Six or seven of us in the field and we all came over at our own expenses.
I come over a little bit early because I know my body doesn't travel too good, 22 hours of plane time, probably about 30 hours all lot. So it is a long way to come over to compete.
So I feel like if an Australian can pull it off, we feel definitely behind the 8-ball in terms of where we're coming from to compete at the top level.
Q. Shows your commitment to be part of a world-class field.
LACHLAN WOOD: 100 percent I want to bring this home and bring the G4D home to Australia, and open everyone's eyes to the talent we have back home.
Q. Is Brendan the man to this week?
LACHLAN WOOD: Brendan is always a fierce competitor. He's a highly respected player and great ambassador for the game. If I don't win it I'd like to see Brendan win it. You've got a good mix of eight to ten guys that are on any given day they can tear it up. I was playing with Brad Smith today and he played really good all bar one or two holes, really consistent player, and really impressive to see him play with what disability he's got. It's amazing.
