Flash Quotes

C. RUUD/J. Munar

6-3, 6-4

Q. Another quarterfinal in Rome. Came back during the second set. How much of an achievement does this feel off the back of what you did in Madrid?

CASPER RUUD: Yeah, it feels great. Tough match against Jaume. We know each other well. We had two really tough matches already this year. First round Australia was five sets. Second time was in Dallas, semifinal. It was 7-6 in the third. Luckily third time it goes my way. Not as tight today, but really tough match. One break each set is enough sometimes. I'm very happy the way I played.

Yeah, it was a little bit difficult. You're waiting all day yesterday, you don't get on. You have to reset. You've been in your bubble for eight, nine, 10 hours on-site. You go home and just, like, let go of all the emotions. You reset, come back today.

I'm proud of the way I handled it.

Q. No one has won more clay court matches than you over the past five years. How much confidence does that stat give you as you try to beat Jannik Sinner for the first time tomorrow?

CASPER RUUD: I mean, match wins is one thing, then of course you do that at the biggest tournament is another. I've had a little bit of both.

I would consider Alcaraz has had a better four or five years on the surface. He won Paris, won Madrid a couple times, won Monte-Carlo. By far way more bigger titles than myself.

Yeah, it's been steady five years on this surface for me. That's why I keep saying I love coming back here. Just kind of feel like I'm in my backyard. But that doesn't mean I don't lose matches on the surface. I lost already a couple matches this year. I'm on good roll now.

Tomorrow will be one of the toughest matches of the year. I got beaten pretty bad by Jannik last time in Turin. This time we're playing in Italy again. It's another surface, another tournament.

He's been looking good since first match. I've been feeling pretty good, so it's going to be a good one tomorrow.
