Quick Quotes
Q. So 21 holes in this quarterfinal match. Can you talk about the winning putt on 18 first? It's a par-3, so how close it was, who made the putt.
BELLA DOVHEY: I made the putt and it was probably 30 something, 35 feet, breaking a ton.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah.
BELLA DOVHEY: I was aiming almost sideways. It was really just a feel. I'm feeling so good on these greens after, what, 38 holes or something.
SOPHIA DYER: We're warmed up.
BELLA DOVHEY: Yeah, I was pretty warm. It was really just trusting the line, and I saw it and it went in.
Q. Yeah. How the emotion after the putt?
BELLA DOVHEY: I was just so happy.
SOPHIA DYER: I could have picked her up and twirled her around. I've never been happier.
BELLA DOVHEY: Yeah, it was just awesome. Just to have all my friends watching and be with my best friend as a partner was really special.
Q. How did you guys partner up for this championship?
BELLA DOVHEY: Sophia is my best friend, and so it's like a no-brainer.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah. And we met playing PGA Junior League, so we started playing team golf together, so it was just natural.
BELLA DOVHEY: Yeah.
Q. Walk me through the whole quarterfinal match. You guys went down, tied it with a birdie on 4, and tied it again on 11. Can you walk me through those?
BELLA DOVHEY: So 4, Sophia made a super clutch birdie putt about 12 feet to tie the match, and so that was a big putt.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah.
BELLA DOVHEY: And then 11, that's a pretty long par-3. I two putted for par and the two sisters ended up making a bogey on that hole, so we won that hole so that was big.
Q. And then you guys took the lead with a birdie on 13 but lost it on 16. Can you talk about what it felt like taking the lead and what you were thinking in that moment and obviously when you lost it a few holes later?
BELLA DOVHEY: On 13 I hit a great shot into the green on the par-5. I had just two putt for birdie which won the hole, so a lot of momentum after that. On the next hole I hit a great shot into the green and missed the putt which kind of slowed down the momentum there.
So I think I that that putt was big there. It really just at least slowed me down. Lost some energy. That was kind of a turning point.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah, then 16, the two girls ended up hitting on the -- they could reach the green in two. They just went over the green and they had a --
BELLA DOVHEY: Two easy chips.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah, two pretty good chips, and so one girl snuck it up close and made birdie.
Q. What was your mental -- what were you guys thinking throughout the match and how did that maybe change? What kind of adjustments did you make when you knew you were going to extra holes?
BELLA DOVHEY: I felt really calm out there. I feel like having Sophia as my partner, it made me feel really calm. Like walking the fairways with my best friend, I knew she wasn't going to murder me if I did anything bad, so...
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah, this tournament is just so fun.
BELLA DOVHEY: We were so excited to be here --
SOPHIA DYER: So excited to play this much golf today and have a tee time on Wednesday.
BELLA DOVHEY: Yeah, we're just happy to be here. There is nothing, no pressure for us. Just having fun out here.
Q. Is this your first Four-Ball?
BELLA DOVHEY: Yes.
SOPHIA DYER: Yes.
Q. How does it feel making it to the last day of the first Four-Ball you guys play in together?
SOPHIA DYER: Feels great.
BELLA DOVHEY: Yeah, we've had some struggles, some -- in qualifying. We don't have to go into that.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah, we're just happy to be here and have a tee time on the final day is the cherry on top, so we're excited for tomorrow.
Q. Back to the round of 16 match, that was another back and forth against a couple of mid-ams. Talk about that experience.
BELLA DOVHEY: They were really strong players. We knew since the first hole I could just see it. They were not -- it was not going to be an easy match.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah.
BELLA DOVHEY: But, yeah, it was just -- we all played good golf. It was a great match. We ended up getting a lot of momentum at the end.
SOPHIA DYER: I think some really clutch like chips and bunker shots in that match.
BELLA DOVHEY: Yeah.
SOPHIA DYER: I think with the wind today, chipping and short game was like the deciding factor, so...
BELLA DOVHEY: Yeah, we were definitely on in that area.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah. Pretty good chip in to close out the match pretty much.
BELLA DOVHEY: That was the biggest moment of our day.
Q. Yeah, talk me through that?
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah, so 16, we were 1-up coming into 16, and I had hit driver off the deck into the -- almost in the greenside bunker. Had kind of a downhill lie into the rough.
Q. (Indiscernible.)
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah, hit off the tee box today actually.
Q. Which one was that?
SOPHIA DYER: 8, yeah, driver off the deck.
Q. Was there a reason why?
SOPHIA DYER: Just like it. It goes under the wind. But 16, had a downhill lie in the rough and I actually chipped and went over the green. Just felt good about that chip. That was a really -- pulled the pin, chipped that one in.
That was like a huge momentum going into 17. All we had to do was tie the hole to win the match.
Q. How far was the chip more or less?
SOPHIA DYER: Probably 20 feet. Super close.
Q. Gotchu. When you made that shot, that was to go 2-up. You said that that was kind of a turning point in the match.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah, it was super late in the match but it just like helped us be more stress-free on 17.
BELLA DOVHEY: Yeah, and it was kind of a hit to them and we just got so much energy from that, just was really everything there.
Q. You mentioned being friends. What do you talk about on the course maybe between holes or shots to take your mind off the golf?
BELLA DOVHEY: Everything other than golf. I've been singing songs to her all day.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah. She couldn't think of the name of a song earlier and she started singing the lyrics and I was thinking about it throughout the hole.
Q. What was the song?
SOPHIA DYER: We would rather not say. Key Glock.
Q. Okay. Lastly, your thoughts going into tomorrow. Obviously a really long day today. How are you going to prepare, unwind?
BELLA DOVHEY: Sleep. A lot of sleep, rest.
SOPHIA DYER: We're definitely going to go home and just probably go straight to bed. We almost had pretty much 12 hours of straight up golf today.
BELLA DOVHEY: And then just go into it with the same mindset we have been, just no pressure. Just going to have fun tomorrow. Doesn't matter how we play. It's just having fun.
SOPHIA DYER: Yeah.
