BLACK DESERT CHAMPIONSHIP

May 1, 2025

Lucy Li

Ivins, Utah, USA

Black Desert Resort

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Lucy after her first round here at the Black Desert Resort. Phenomenal round from you today. A lot birdies on the card. What was working so well for you out there?

LUCY LI: Yeah, hitting the ball really well and rolling it really well, so both of those things combined you're going to shoot low scores out there.

Really beautiful day, and so just happy to be out here.

Q. Only missed two fairways and one green. How much of that was how well you played today?

LUCY LI: Yeah, I've been hitting it really well for like a while now, so it's good to see some putts go in and make some birdies.

Out here you kind of have to hit the fairway. Yeah, it was a good round. I enjoyed the group I was playing with.

Q. Obviously first time out here. What was maybe some of the things coming into this week that you were being more extra particular, on especially on a new course?

LUCY LI: Honestly before this week didn't have time to think about it. We were at a major. My caddie walked the course on Monday and saw a lot of what he said was like being careful off the tee, just knowing where your lines are and what clubs you're hitting. So that's really the key.

Q. You just mentioned the major and coming from that kind of grind, it's wet, not the best conditions. Coming out here where it's pristine and being able to attack, what's the mentality switch for you?

LUCY LI: I don't think I made any sort of mental change. It's kind of just hit each shot as best you can really.

So I had a lot of positives from last week. Didn't finish great, but I was hitting the ball really good. I knew that would be good out here.

Q. Speak to the beauty of this golf course and how cool it is in the Snow Canyon area.

LUCY LI: Yeah, it's so amazing. You wake up and look at the red mountains and it's so beautiful. Just a really good reminder. Sometimes when you're grinding it out there for weeks on the road you lose a little bit of the sense how lucky we are to be out here.

Just this week looking around it's so amazing that we get to do this for a living. I'm also really appreciative of the tournament support, the charter flight from Houston and everything; that was really amazing.

This is going to be a really great tournament going forward.

Q. How do you continue to build when you have this strong of a start? You're obviously riding momentum from last week.

LUCY LI: You know, just it's very trite to say, but it really is one shot at a time. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and not think too much about anything else.

That's really the key. No matter how many years of golf you played, been professional for a while now, you kind of learn the same lessons over and over again. That's to make sure you're always in the moment.

Q. A little bit off the golf course. May 1st. It's AANHPI month. For you, being able to represent your community on the LPGA Tour week in and week out, how proud are you of that heritage and to be a role model for other Lucy Lis that want to play on the LPGA?

LUCY LI: That's the most impactful thing for me, is when I get out here and you see little Asian girls, any type of young kids, and their parents come up to me and say, my kid was inspired by you. That really touches me and that's kind of part of the reason why I'm doing what I do.

It's just really amazing to see I can have any sort of the impact.
