Quick Quotes
Q. Here about Carlota Ciganda after her first round at the Black Desert Championship presented by Greater Zion. Very solid bogey-free round for you today. What was working so well?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: I think we had a good plan with my caddie out there. I think it was important to keep the ball in the grass today. I think it's a course that I think you're going to make some high scores if you don't play maybe conservative or hit to your spots.
I think we did a really good job picking really good targets and swinging aggressive to those targets. I think I hit 16 greens, made a few putts, and very happy with the round.
Q. Coming into this week, obviously a new course none of us have played. What were some of the different things you worked on that you normally wouldn't to attack a brand new course?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: I think I prepare the same every week. I'm lucky my coach comes pretty much every week, so we just try to have the swing ready for Thursday. I saw him on the range and did a couple good drills that I know I'm hitting the ball good.
And just having a good plan out there with my caddie. We did that really good today, just picking good spots and playing aggressive when we could and conservative when we had to.
Yeah, bogey-free round here, it's very good and very happy.
Q. Obviously this is one of the highest, if not the highest, elevation we'll play in all season. Did you have to dial back some of your clubs? A lot more help off the tee?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: Yeah, for sure. The ball is flying a lot longer. Luckily we have TrackMans nowadays and I had a good session on the range.
And also with the easy quad on the course, look at a few numbers, and I think that's very helpful.
Yeah, it's flying at least half a club to a club on some shots.
Q. Now that you have a full round under your belt, any different strategies maybe play a little more aggressive tomorrow?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: I think do the same. If I can do the same and just no penalties, especially off the tees, keep hitting that many greens, I think we're going to be up there.
Q. As an ASU grad, a little familiarity being back here in the desert?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: Yeah, it's beautiful. It does remind me of Arizona and Sedona with the red rocks. I really like it and feels closer to home away from home.
Yeah, it's always nice to, yeah, to be closer to Arizona.
