Pit Lane Interview
Q. William, what were you dealing with when you had to go under the hood early?
WILLIAM BYRON: Seemed like some sort of steering issue. We were just trying to work through that. The guys did a great job getting it to where I could drive it there in the third stage. The first part of the race was sketchy, just being able to kind of steer through situations, change lanes.
Really proud of our team. To be able to overcome that is just a testament to what our team is this year and the things we're able to do.
I hate it, though. I felt like I was in a really good spot to win there with 10 or eight to go, whatever. Just got to look back at that and figure where that went wrong.
Still happy to get a top five. Hopefully get a win at Texas, that would be nice.
Q. Racing at these places, is it luck, is it skill... You're always running up at the front. What would you say it takes to run well and be consistent?
WILLIAM BYRON: Yeah, I mean, I try to be good every week. I feel like here it's just trying to figure out the details that it takes during the race.
Honestly, the way I prepare for these races is different than everywhere else. You have to really adapt to the nature of the race each day. Feels like it changes every time.
I don't feel like I'm always the best right away. I feel like by the end I kind of get a feel for what the draft is like and make the right moves.
