Q. Sophia, Gianna had some really great words to say about playing with you and how you've been an inspiration coming back after having a child. What does that mean to hear that? She had amazing things to say.

SOPHIA POPOV: That's very sweet of her. We had a great first two rounds. I'm actually thoroughly impressed with her game. I told her, I said she has some of the best short game I've ever seen. She made up-and-down from spots that I would be happy to get out of there with a bogey.

I was just impressed with her game and just how she carries herself. She's very confident, and she knows what her abilities are. I just thought that was very cool, and at the same time she's just a very nice person and we had some good chats on the course. I lived in Naples for seven years, which is close to where she's from. I heard from all the members around that there was this up-and-coming young girl, so it was nice for me to play with her and actually get a front-row seat to her game.

Q. What does it mean to you to be that kind of role model for younger girls that are hoping to come out here and be a mom at the same time?

SOPHIA POPOV: Yeah, I think my biggest goal nowadays is just to -- I know my golf game is good enough to compete out here, but at the same time, obviously my most important job is being a mom, and I love to inspire young girls, kids, even to just get into golf and just show them that it's also possible to play as a mom. You can have a long career out here and you can have kids and you can still play, and I have an amazing support system. Granted, my mom is able to come to most events and I'm super lucky, but I just love to see the next generation of girls. Like I said, Gianna is super impressive, and there's just a lot more of those girls coming now.
