The Woodlands, Texas, USA

The Club at Carlton Woods

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Hye-Jin Choi after the first round of The Chevron Championship. Bogey-free round today. What did you feel was really great in your game?

HYE-JIN CHOI: Today was I feel really calm today. Like I mean, I play last week; it wasn't great because I miss the cut.

So I felt uncomfortable when I start this tournament because last week wasn't great, so I just try to more like calming and keep trying.

Like I just want to focus on when I swing. I just keep trying that one. It's really help today, yeah.

Q. And what was your one focus?

HYE-JIN CHOI: One focusing was I try keeping more -- like more concentrating more on my setup before I swing.

When I take a backswing, I try more calm, don't like rush; so I do.

Q. And you have one of the lowest scores this afternoon. How happy are you to not have any rain this afternoon and to post one of these great scores in the afternoon wave?

HYE-JIN CHOI: Our tee time was 12:48, but when we start it was rain, but just tee shot and then take off.

So really lucky for today, so I really like today, too, yeah.

Q. On the back nine you birdied and then par'd the rest of the holes.

HYE-JIN CHOI: Yeah.

Q. What was the mindset and did you realize that making pars the rest of the way was going to be good to put you up on the leaderboard?

HYE-JIN CHOI: Yeah, I mean, back nine was lots of chance for birdie chance, but I missed a couple, but I keep trying. Like I want to do some, like how can I do like this.

So I mean, I don't have birdie anymore after 10, but I don't have bogey, too, so it's okay.

Q. Exactly. You feel like you're playing steady?

HYE-JIN CHOI: Yeah.

Q. And are you happy with how you did with your one swing thought today? Did you feel like you really did a good job being stable and slow and in tempo?

HYE-JIN CHOI: Yeah, I think so, yeah. I mean, it's first day, so I keep trying to final round, too.
