Quick Quotes

Q. Collin, just looking at the stats today, it looks like putting was maybe the main key to your round. Does that sound about right?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, saved me two to three times. When you're playing all right and you're not really making too many mistakes, you want to make those big par savers.

Obviously I capitalized on the birdies, but the big 10-, 15-footers, even for par, that kept the round and just gives me a little life. That's what you kind of need when it's not feeling 100 percent.

Q. Did the course play any different from yesterday? Players kind of talked it was starting to get a little firmer and faster as the day was going on yesterday.

COLLIN MORIKAWA: A little bit. I still think it's gettable with a lot of wedges in your hand and short irons. You just have to hit your numbers, and you really have to be diligent with where you're trying to land it.

I got lucky on a few. And other ones, I just haven't really quite had the distance control I need to really make a run. Hopefully, we get that dialed in for the next two days.

Q. Do you feel like there's been some improvements in the game from Augusta to this week so far?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Back and forth. I think Augusta I never was able to keep that momentum. It was nice to have that today and say, okay, look, I can put together a round when I'm making my up-and-downs, making some putts for par.

The irons need to tidy up a little bit. It all comes down, especially on a course like this, where you just have to be really good with your distance control. It's just been a little bit off. The difference between having inside 10 feet to 20, 25 feet for birdie is huge, especially on a course like this.

Q. I'm guessing that kind of would be the one thing maybe you go and work on a little bit before tomorrow?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, it's felt fine off the tee. I've put myself in the fairway a decent amount. I just need to tidy up the irons and clean it up a little bit.
