J. OSTAPENKO/E. Navarro
7-5, 3-6, 6-2
Q. Jelena, well done today. A solid performance against a player who is doing quite well the last couple of years. What made the difference out there? And what are you so pleased about?
JELENA OSTAPENKO: Thank you. Yeah, she's a great player. It was hard to play against her, because she's like not missing a lot of balls since she's very consistent.
I was fighting until the very last point. Even after second set I was rushing a bit too much. Didn't feel my game. I'm really glad that in the third set I started to feel my game and managed to win the match.
Q. There was still quite a big crowd for the match. How much do you enjoy putting on a show for the fans that stayed around for that match tonight?
JELENA OSTAPENKO: I think it's really great to see almost the full stadium. It's really nice. I honestly love this tournament. I think this is one of the nicest tournaments during the year.
Yeah, I really enjoy to play on the big stages with a lot of people. I enjoy it much more than when no one is watching (smiling).
Q. You've played some night sessions here before that maybe you haven't got through those matches. What was it about tonight? Was it the motivation that you had, or was it the way you played or your focus?
JELENA OSTAPENKO: I was just telling myself that I can win this match, and I just have to fight until the last point. Yeah, I was more, like, in charge of this match. I don't know how to say it.
Q. Control?
JELENA OSTAPENKO: Yeah, in control of this match. In deciding moments, I think I put my level up. Yeah, that worked pretty well.
Q. You're not seeded here. You have been maybe in previous years. Do you think sort of all the other players say you're quite dangerous because of not being seeded? Like is it much of a motivation for you to be sort of regarded as the underdog or something like that?
JELENA OSTAPENKO: You know, here it's a very tough draw in these smaller tournaments, because if you're not like 12, 15, you're not seeded already. So every match is a tough match.
It's not really about being seeded. It's just to play and fight and be ready for every single match.
Q. Two questions about your next round. You're into the quarterfinals. Tomorrow is a rest day. What is the plan tomorrow ahead of your quarterfinal on Saturday?
JELENA OSTAPENKO: Just to practice and recover. Yeah, do what I have to do.
Q. Let's talk about your next opponent, Iga. Obviously you were asked on court, as well. You have a very, very strong record against her. What is it about your game matching up with hers that you think has resulted in you having such a dominant record against her?
JELENA OSTAPENKO: I just have to do what I have to do: Stay aggressive and playing my game. I'm always ready for a battle against great players. I mean, she's a great player.
Yeah, I think I just need to focus more on what I have to do.
