Quick Quotes
Q. You were tinkering with some clubs. You were working on some things coming into today. How did it feel?
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Up and down. A little up and down. I want to steer that ship in the right direction. I feel like I've got a golf swing that is favorable right now; it's just not dialed in like I want it to be.
I need to go work on that a little bit and get comfortable for tomorrow.
Q. With the score being equal, do you get more confidence out of a round where you go bogey free and make three birdies or a round like today where you put seven birdies on the card --
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Probably more confidence if I go bogey free. Although it's weird, I feel like, oh, I haven't made a bogey yet. You get that kind of testy nerve in there.
So making some bogeys for me probably frees me up a little bit and says, you know what, just go out and play some golf.
Q. You must be happy with the way you started, 69, 3-under.
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Yeah, it's a great start. Anytime you're under par at the Masters, it's an honor to be there, give myself a good chance going into the weekend.
Tomorrow is going to be another great test, and hopefully I can set myself up on Saturday and give myself a chance on Sunday.
Q. You said your swing wasn't dialed in today, but what did work well for you today?
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Yeah, I missed it in the right spot besides 17. That was my big real miss of the day. Missed it kind of where I wanted to around the golf course. Just didn't capitalize on a couple holes, No. 8 being one of them.
7, had just an easy shot and got a little mud on the ball and didn't account for that as well as I could have.
No. 5, overdrew it, as well. Big mistake. Wish I had those back. I've just got to be better with my irons. That's really what it is.
Q. Tell us how you feel about the greens.
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: The greens are firming up. They're getting in great condition. Just how I like them.
Q. Are you going to stick with the same driver head you used today?
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Oh, I don't know. Who knows.
Q. You led the field in driving by 15 yards --
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Oh, wow.
Q. Was that part of the plan coming in here?
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Great. I guess. The plan is to give myself a great chance on Sunday, but hitting it far is a lot of fun, as well, definitely.
Q. How many heads do you have this week?
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Oh, a lot. Probably like --
Q. (Indiscernible).
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Yeah, probably more than that. I'm just going through each one.
Q. Do you carry them in one big bag?
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Yeah, my buddy has got a nice little backpack of driver heads. It's funny, the manufacturing process. It's unique. They don't all come out the same. So I'm working to resolve that here shortly.
Q. I saw that President Trump messaged you before the round --
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: No. He did before the final round at Doral last week, so that ended up not going so great, but it is what it is. I always appreciate a phone call from the President, any President.
Q. Two years in a row starting well here, looking back now, is there anything that maybe you see that maybe you weren't doing as well before that you've kind of figured out?
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Yeah, I've got equipment that works a lot more than what I used to have, and I feel like now I'm in a place that -- I'm in a mindset, more of a mindset where I feel a lot more patient.
I think that pays dividends out here when it's a really windy day or even a perfect day. Even a perfect day. I mean, look at it. It's just perfect. It's beautiful. I'm enjoying this right now. I'm sorry. I appreciate the questions, but it's beautiful right now. Look at that. It's glowing.
