MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 10, 2025

Nicolai Højgaard

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. A crazy start and a couple dropped shots and you get it right back. Just describe the roller coaster this day was.

NICOLAI HØJGAARD: Yeah, a bit too much up and down. It's a very tough start on this golf course. The holes played fairly simple this morning. Not much wind right in front of you.

Made it a little bit hard to get out of the gates, but managed to bounce back pretty well. I was very proud of how I fought back. I think that's something I'll remember for long time, that you have a bad start and always bounce back.

So, yeah, bit too much of a rollercoaster.

Q. Is that something you feel in the game, decisions that went bad here and there?

NICOLAI HØJGAARD: I mean, the game has not been sharp lately. I am working hard on a few things. It takes probably a little bit longer than I want it to. I can see bits out there that's really good, so that makes me look a little bit brighter at the state of my game at the moment.

I feel it's not to far away, but when I make a mistake these last -- this year, last few months it's really gone wrong and just makes me wonder why that happens sometimes.

Q. That shot on 15, just take me through the second there.

NICOLAI HØJGAARD: Yeah, set up pretty nicely for a 6-iron. Tried to pitch it little bit the pin, but had a flare in my irons today, flare to the right, and missed it slightly, but kind of knew it should carry still. Ended up being perfect.

Q. How exhausting is it for to you bounce back mentally the way you did? I have to think your energy levels are...

NICOLAI HØJGAARD: Yeah, they're pretty low. Yeah, it's tough when you're always like on the edge of good things then you back down and crawl back up. It's a grind, but that's part of it. You're going to have spells where it's going to feel like that.

I just got to accept my situation and how I'm playing at the moment and I know there is a lot of good stuff in there. Obviously got to manage the mistakes a little bit better.

Q. And you're still figuring this course out. This is I believe your second time here. Is there any benefit to that where you don't second guess yourself, you just like, know what, this is what you see, this is how I'm going to play it because I don't have a whole lot of bad experiences to make me second guess myself?

NICOLAI HØJGAARD: I've had plenty of semi-bad experiences on the golf course from last year. At times I just think that you're in between a few things. When you hit a few bad swings to start, you suddenly get in between in your decision making.

It was kind of hard to get back on track, and then on obviously around the turn I had a little bit of a rough spot again. I feel like 13 could have been the turnaround. Had a really good chance to make birdie and didn't.

So I knew that coming in there is chances, but, yeah, it's mentally draining playing a round like this. It's all part of it.

Q. Will you convene with your brother later and compare notes? He's going to see your scorecard.

NICOLAI HØJGAARD: He's going to be scared to see that scorecard. I don't think he's looking too much at it. Of course we'll talk later in the house for dinner. I hope he plays a good round today.

I'm going to go back and watch a little bit of golf and regroup with my team and try to bounce back tomorrow.
