MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 10, 2025

Bernhard Langer

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Do you have an English synopsis of what you've been saying?

BERNHARD LANGER: We should have done it in English. I played really well the first 11 holes. Really well. I was 1-under.

Then I made a mistake on 12, took the wrong club, made bogey.

On 13 I hit it a little fat in the water. Then regained my composure and played fairly solid from there on in.

Overall it was a pretty good round for a 67-year-old to get around here at 2-under with the clubs I'm hitting into, sometimes 3-woods into par-4s and 2 hybrids and 3 hybrids.

So overall I'm very pleased with the performance. If I want to make the cut, I've got to do much better tomorrow, or some better.

The atmosphere was fantastic. I got lots of standing ovations all over the place, starting on No. 1 and many other holes. People seem to really appreciate that I've been here for 40-odd years and what I've achieved, not just here, but in my golf career. The patrons appreciate that, and it was nice to see.

Q. As you walked through the course today, was there also memories that you were playing the battle along with the course today?

BERNHARD LANGER: There's always memories to battle the course, but the red was when I won in '85 on Sunday, and tomorrow may be green and yellow, which was my outfit in '93.

So it's more or less to celebrate the two outfits that I put the green jacket on. That's the idea behind it.

Q. Are you happy with your round?

BERNHARD LANGER: Yeah, I just said that. I'm pretty happy but made a couple of mistakes.

Q. What club did you use on 12?

BERNHARD LANGER: I was between 7 and 8, and it should have been into the wind, so I took 7 and went over and didn't get it up-and-down.

8 would have been perfect, but it's swirling.

Q. When you're using those longer clubs on the par-4are there specific slopes you're looking at short of the green that you are trying to feed the ball off, or what's the strategy there?

BERNHARD LANGER: The thought is more like where do I have to land it to maybe stop it on the green? And if it doesn't stop on the green, where can I get it up-and-down from? That's the constant battle. What's the easier up-and-down? Left, right, short, long.

You can't control the 3-wood or a 2-hybrid. You don't know how much it's going to run when it hits the green and all that.
