MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 10, 2025

Evan Beck

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Evan, I wanted to ask you about the Wake Forest connection. Will and Cameron helping you out this week, how cool has that been? I know you played nine holes with Cam and a par-3 with Will, right?

EVAN BECK: I did. It was fun. Both much younger than I am, and hopefully they played better than I did today. I haven't looked, but it was fun to see some familiar faces out here.

Q. The first tee, did you notice anything? It's kind of loud on the first tee here. Did you pick up on that as you were teeing off for the first time?

EVAN BECK: I kept my headphones in as long as I could to try to not think about it. But yeah, it's definitely different than anywhere I've ever played. The atmosphere here is incredible, and it's special to be a part of it.

Q. What did you feel like your first round here as a Mid-Am champ?

EVAN BECK: Hit it great, I putted horrendous and had a four-putt and four three-putts, I think. Need to figure that out.

But outside of that, I played pretty well.

Q. How much golf have you been playing? I know this is the most golf you've played in a while, right?

EVAN BECK: The last tournament I played was the U.S. Mid-Am, September.

Q. Is your back holding up pretty good?

EVAN BECK: Yeah, back is good. No excuses there. Just didn't play any good.

Q. Do you feel like you have a plan for tomorrow?

EVAN BECK: I'm going to spend some time on the putting green and try to figure out the speed of these greens and try to do better tomorrow.

Q. Does a couple days of practice out here do it justice stepping on the first tee box?

EVAN BECK: No. No. It's very different. The greens were three, four feet faster than I think I played it. Couldn't get adjusted to it on the putting green this morning, and it showed pretty clearly for about five hours, six hours.

Q. What did you learn today?

EVAN BECK: I don't know, I've played it 12 times now, and felt like I knew where to hit it, and for the most part, I did that. Hit a lot of greens and just putted terribly.

Q. Can you talk me through 12. I know a lot of amateurs that play this tournament would love to say they made birdie on it.

EVAN BECK: Yeah, that was great. I knocked it about an 18-, 20-footer and nobody clapped. I guess they couldn't see it. But Bubba was like, listen to that crowd, and I was like, I've been hearing them all day except for the only time I do something good. But it was cool to make a birdie there. Highlight of the day for sure.

Q. How did you and Bubba get on? What were the conversations like?

EVAN BECK: We talked stock market a little bit. We talked just little banter here and there. Not a ton of talking going on. I was very focused on what he was doing and I was trying to stay out of his way.

Q. Obviously the biggest stage you've played on. Was it hard for you to lock in as far as staying committed to a pre-shot routine, doing everything you do in amateur golf? Was there an enhanced amount of challenges doing that because of the size of the crowds and there just being noise?

EVAN BECK: Yeah, there's definitely a lot of noise, a lot of background noise going on, but I don't think that's an excuse for how I putted today. I think putting is normally the best thing that I do, and not today.
