MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 8, 2025

Harris English

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Doesn't get old coming back here, does it?

HARRIS ENGLISH: No, it doesn't. Kind of have to pinch yourself. Being here as a 12 year old, doesn't get any better than this. I mean, you can't play it enough. You can't play too many Masters.

Walking up on the first tee it kind of hits you, we're back at Augusta. It's so special. Being in Georgia, never gets old. Going to school about an hour and a half away, it's the best in the world.

I love it every time I get invited. I don't take it for granted. This is my sixth or seventh time playing. Just can't take it for granted.

Q. (Regarding how noticeable the missing trees are.)

HARRIS ENGLISH: It does a little bit. Like that was the first time I played 9 this week, and looks so much more open. Some of those trees they're used to curving off of or aiming at are not there. It's wild, especially on the back nine, seeing Augusta Country Club a little bit.

11 and 12 are noticeably different.

15 and 16 kind of behind the green, depth perception is noticeably different.

And the right of 8 and off the tee on 9 you can tell for sure.

So it'll play a little different. I'm sure it affects every other guy that's been here as many times as I have. I'm glad they didn't lose more.

Q. 16 green?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, 16 green, like I guess to the short right of it and back left, it's definitely more open. I think that back left pin you are used to aiming at different trees and now they're not there.

You got to pick somebody in the crowd.

Q. Talk about successes the Dawgs have had on TOUR this year? How cool is that to look up and see Dawgs still dominating?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, it's awesome. Got a good crew out here. I don't know how many are out here this week, but definitely dominating the college players out here repping Georgia.

It's awesome to see. I'm really close to a lot of those guys. It's awesome what we've built at Georgia and still out here dominating on TOUR.

I loved seeing Sepp win earlier, Russell winning at Bay Hill, and Harman last week. It's awesome, and I think we motivate each other to get better and keep winning. When one of them wins it leads to others having success.

Q. Does it ever get old walking down the fairway and people barking at you, go Dawgs?

HARRIS ENGLISH: It doesn't. I love having that support out here. Obviously coming to Augusta you're going to have a lot of Georgia fans. Never gets old. Dawg Nation getting behind us all, it's nice to have that support.

Q. (Regarding 20th anniversary of Tiger's chip.)

HARRIS ENGLISH: I was probably a freshman in high school. I guess he was battling with DiMarco. I think the first time I came out here was 2006 or 2007 when Phil won for the first time, or 2004.

Yeah, everybody loves that chip that Tiger hit. He's had so many special moments around here. Even watched a little bit of the '97 Masters on TV last night. I love watching those old highlights.

Crazy some of the changes that he made here over the years, but it's such a special week. I don't watch a ton of golf, but I will watch anything with the Masters.

Q. First time you came here did you try that chip?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, everybody does. That back left pin, trying to do what Tiger did, it's incredible, the moment. That ball hovering over the edge, it's just picture perfect.

Q. Talked about some the success the Dawgs have had lately. Have you talked to Brian after his win?

HARRIS ENGLISH: I talked him a little bit. I know he was busy. I know what winning entails and everything that goes on after that. I know he got in late. Haven't seen him yet, but we're playing the par-3 together tomorrow.

I'll get to catch up with him.

Q. How big was that for him with given what they've gone through?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, he doesn't like to talk about it a lot. He's a pretty private person. I try not to bring it up when I'm around him.

The whole St. Simons community and the Dawg family kind of know what they've been going through, and it's been really tough for him and his wife and kids. He's had a lot going through his mind.

I think inside the ropes is kind of his oasis and a place to forget about all that and get in his groove.

So it's nice to see him play well. I know he hadn't got off to the start of the season he wanted to, and a bit of pressure winning The Open and then trying to prove he's a major caliber player.

We all know he is. Doesn't shock me when he plays well. Doesn't shock me. I knew beyond shadow of a doubt he was going to close it out. That's just the player he is and the player I've known for the better part of 20 years.

Q. What kind of impact does the course being closed most of the day? I know you've played out here, but if you were a first time player how would that impact you having one less day?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, it's definitely tough for some of those guys. I got in four holes yesterday. I kind of woke up and the weather was better than I thought.

It's a different prep. I mean, I think less is more this week, especially being here as many times as I've been here. You can play too many practice rounds and be out here too long and wear yourself out before Thursday and Friday.

It's one of the most mentally draining weeks of the year. I don't know if it's just being from Georgia and having a lot of friends and family and all that, but it's just a tough test out here mentally. You have to be 100% locked in and mentally sharp out here to play well.

It drains you. Losing a day like that of prep hurts a lot of the guys. I played front nine this morning. Going to kind of practice and take it easy and play the par-3 tomorrow so it's not such a long day. You got to kind of plan it out this week.

Q. On the flipside does that par-3 allow you to...

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, it does. Early in my career, obviously you want to play well in the par-3. You want to make a hole-in-one, win the par-3.

But now having an almost two year old daughter, it's all about her. Have some of those pictures, memories out there. Just have fun with two of my best friends on tour with Harmon and Patton Kizzire, you don't know how much longer you're going to get to do that.

It's a special day. So unique in our sport. To have my wife out there and my daughter, Emilia, it's going to be special.

Q. Wife on the bag?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, yeah.

Q. Can you explain to the average golfer what it's like on a Thursday to step on the first tee, if there is any anxiety of what it's like to hit that first tee ball?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, you definitely have nerves and you want to get off if a good start. As you walk to the first tee there is a little bit of anxiousness nervousness. You just want to get off to a good start.

It's a pretty inviting tee ball. It looks easy. Just like every shot around here, it has its difficulties and you want to put it in the right spot.

Yeah, it's awesome. I mean, I love those butterflies. That nervousness. So I feel like if that ever goes away, you might as well not be playing.

Q. I know big football fan for the Dawgs. What are you looking forward to on Saturday?

HARRIS ENGLISH: I don't know if they're going to be on TV or not, so I don't know if -- I love taping and watching it. Whatever Kirby wants, that's fine with me. I guess with the NIL stuff you get third or fourth string guys with tape and somebody will come in and poach them. I don't like where all that is going.

But a good quarterback battle. I like Gunner a lot. I know I guess he's sophomore, Ryan Puglisi. Just a good battle. That's what you want, competition in there. I know he'll have them right and that defense will be playing with some fire.

So I'm being forward to the season. Happy with some of the home games we have this year instead of the brutal schedule of last year getting Bama and Texas at home. So be good. I am looking forward to it.

Q. If you had a chance to ask Kirby one question, what would it be?

HARRIS ENGLISH: There is a lot of questions I would like to ask Kirby. Just how he keeps his intensity up year after year is pretty impressive. Obviously he lives and breathes football. How do you get your guys up every single game? That's pretty impressive.

Seems like he wakes up every day and he's ready to get after it. He's a great motivate for and I would love to have him on the bag in some situations where you need a little kick. I think he would be good. A lot of us use his mantras out here.

Q. (Indiscernible.)

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, keep chopping. A lot of what he preaches is very useful on the golf course.

Q. (Wind interference.)

HARRIS ENGLISH: With Georgia guys? Some of us do. Like kind of different ones, like Kiz and Harm are one, duck hunting crew. And then some of the younger guys.

So, yeah, we were all pulling on each other. It's a lot of the support and a lot of the motivation. Just how we were in school. That's how Hacker built it.

We all made each other better. Even on TOUR, we're still continuing to push each other and make each other better.

Q. (Indiscernible.)

HARRIS ENGLISH: I mean, not officially. Hacker and Jim Douglas will sometimes group us all together in some chats. So we like making fun of them more than each other.
