MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 8, 2025

Dustin Johnson

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. You played a full 18 today?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: I did. Yeah, we obviously yesterday with the rain and the course being closed pretty much all day, yeah, just got out and played. It was nice. Moved pretty good.

Q. When you don't get to practice day one do you feel set back at all or do you feel you have to go a little harder on Tuesday?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: No. I was coming off a tough week last week, so it was kind of nice to have a day off. I probably would have came out and played nine holes or something, but I didn't mind not doing anything. Just went to the gym.

Q. What's the overall excitement to be back here for the first major, to be out here on the range even?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: It's always exciting coming back to Augusta; especially already having a Green Jacket definitely helps.

And then yeah, I mean, coming off, I feel like the game's in pretty good form, so I'm looking forward to this week. But, yeah, course, just come out and see. Obviously the course looks a little bit different with some of the trees that have gone, but a few new greens, and, yeah, just come out and get a kind of a feel for the golf course and get a little practice in.

But yeah, it was a beautiful day and looking forward to this week.

Q. How do you feel mentally, physically heading into this tournament?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: I feel good, yeah. Everything. Body feels good; mind's good. I played pretty well the last couple weeks. Sunday I didn't. I played a lot better than my score, but yeah, I'm feeling good with the game coming in here.

Q. I was talking to your dad and doing a profile on you and taking it back to 2020. One of the things that stood out to me he said he commends you because the fairways are marked by the people here. Back in 2020 there were no people here and it was like a sea of green. What's your perspective from that and how hard was it with the conditions being COVID playing here?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I mean it was -- I mean it's still Augusta. To me it doesn't play -- it didn't play any different. It was a little bit softer. That was about the only thing. It was pretty soft.

But today it was kind of -- with all the rain yesterday it was pretty soft out there, so kind of reminded me a lot of 2020. But it will be firmer by Thursday.

Q. Nearly we're approaching five years since you won here. What do you remember about that time and how do you conjure that up to play your best golf this week?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: I mean, I was playing really good coming into here. The game was really sharp. So I feel like it's close to getting back to there. Yeah, I mean I always feel really comfortable around here.

And, yeah, like I said, just looking forward to a nice week and put myself in position to have a chance come the weekend.

Q. What do you remember about that embrace? Your dad told me he wasn't here. He was going up-and-down the stairs looking at the TV. He was so nervous. What do you remember about when you guys finally saw each other and embraced after you won that Green Jacket?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I mean it was -- obviously it was awesome. I mean, you know, growing up so close to here, you know, winning a Green Jacket is a dream come true. So for me, yeah, it was awesome. Just I had the whole family here, so it was great.

Q. He was also telling me about how proud he was of you. What did it mean to win it for your family and...

DUSTIN JOHNSON: I mean, it means everything. Obviously growing up so close to here, yeah, as a kid growing up it was always putts and chips to win the Masters, so to finally win one was pretty special.

Q. You get to share the Green Jacket with Lucas Glover, also a South Carolinian. Do you have a relationship?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I mean he lives down in Jupiter where I do so I see him a lot. But I have another South Carolina boy, you know, it's always good. And then, yeah, hopefully he can have a good week. You never know. But hopefully just finishes right behind me (laughing).

Q. What's the pride you take playing for South Carolina, so close to home?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: I love it. Grew up in South Carolina. That's where I learned to play the game of golf. Still have my golf school down in Myrtle Beach and my foundation's here, so I try to do as much as I can for South Carolina golf. And, yeah, proud South Carolinian.
