MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 8, 2025

Cameron Smith

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How much fun was that out there today, just three Aussies getting together, also sussing out the course? But does that do much for you mentally leading into Thursday?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I think it's kind of good to keep it kind of lighthearted, I guess at the start of the week. These weeks can be a bit of a grind, particularly coming off a week like last week where it was a bit of a grind.

It's nice to go to go out there and hit some shots and play a bit of a game and have some fun.

Q. What did last week, the brutality of Doral, what did that do for your game?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, a little bit -- I mean I think it was a really good test. I think it really switches you on mentally and you can't really let up, and it's a very similar thing this week. You can't really switch the brain off.

It was nice committing to some swings and hitting some difficult shots that you have to hit. So playing more out here again this week, so yeah, I think it was a good test last week, but it was brutal.

Q. What do you think you know about Augusta now that you didn't, say, when you debuted, 2016 or even 2020, five years ago?

CAMERON SMITH: What do I know? I mean, not much. I feel like I almost knew the golf course before I got here in a sense, because you watch it every year and you're so into your practice rounds and kind of what you're doing that you learn it so quick.

The course is a lot different though this year. It looks a lot more airy. Lots of trees came down. Wouldn't say I've learned much. I think I've learned to be patient over the years. That's probably the biggest thing. Just got to do that again this year.

Q. Do your competitive juices just flow when you come through here, memories come back about what you've done and just want to go do well again here?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, there's definitely a sense of like confidence. I haven't, I feel like I've been playing good golf; I haven't got result that's I've wanted at the start of this year.

So it's nice coming to a place knowing you've had some good results. You think about certain shots and you kind of almost forget about your swing around here, which I think is kind of exactly what I need.

I feel like I've done a lot of technical stuff through the off-season, and you have some shots out here where the ball's a foot above your foot or a foot below your foot or a massive down slope, so you kind of just forget about it and you play golf.

I think that's what I love about it.

Q. You ever pictured yourself when you daydream of winning the Masters with the Green Jacket, with the mullet and the Green Jacket has that thought ever crossed your mind?

CAMERON SMITH: No. (Laughing). That would be kind of cool, but no, I haven't thought about that. I desperately want to win one, and I think it would be the best one yet, but I haven't thought about the mullet and the Green Jacket together.

Q. What do you most look forward to about Masters week and how do you not get too ahead of yourself and too carried away with the massive necessary of the week?

CAMERON SMITH: I think it's just such a cool spot. It's hard to describe. It just feels different here. Like you just get out of car and it just feels like a different world. I think having some good experiences here in the past is kind of nice as well, it kind of eases you into the week. So, as many nerves as there will be on Thursday, it's kind of nice knowing that you've been here and you've done it before. So, yeah, hopefully we can go a few better this year and get it done.

Q. Your best years here, 2020, 2022, even including the final round, what head space were you in and what was going on with your game that allowed you to be almost winning the thing, what were you doing so special those weeks, do you think?

CAMERON SMITH: You know, I think back to 2022 particularly, that was probably the best year of my career, and I really wasn't thinking anything, to be honest. You just go out there and you just play golf. I think like I mentioned before, this is what this place kind of brings out in me because you kind of forget about your swing and you just want to try and hit the shot and you get some shots out here that you don't really get anywhere else. Yeah, as much as you strive to have a good technique and be the best at everything you can be at, sometimes letting go and just playing golf is kind of the best option and that's what I'm looking forward to most about this week.
