Trophy Presentation Interview - TV
Q. Carla, congratulations. You follow a very esteemed group of Spanish golfers who have won the Masters tournament. How does it feel to be the first Augusta National Women's amateur champion from Spain?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: It feels amazing. I feel over the moon. Right now I don't think my brain has processed that I won.
Q. I watched a lot of your round today, and I thought one of the key points was on the 10th hole when you missed the green far to the right and made an amazing up-and-down to make par. That had to really give you a lot of confidence for the rest of the round.
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: Yeah, I knew the tournament was going to start on No. 10 because I've watched all the Masters. As soon as I hit that second shot, I was like, oh, I need to get it together and just get this par, and I dig in, and I think that was the key.
Q. I'd love to ask you about your caddie, Rinko Mitsunaga, who is a part of the Kansas State golf family and one of the assistant coaches. It looked like the conversations were so positive and there was such an energy between the two of you today. Can you share some of that with us?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: Yeah, she's my assistant coach. She's super positive. She's like one of my best friends, too. I only have one word for her. She's all I needed today and this week. She made everything feel like I wasn't here. It was, like, easier, if that makes sense. I really appreciate her, and I'm so grateful she caddied for me for three rounds.
Q. Victor Garcia, Sergio's dad, starting at age 13 he was one of the people instrumental in your golf game. We know Sergio had his moment here at Augusta National. How much does that add to what you were able to do here this afternoon?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: I mean, it's a good thing, definitely, that he was the last Spaniard to win here at Augusta. So yeah, I'm so thankful for him. He just helped me so much with my golf swing and even outside of the golf course, he's always there for me. I wish he could be here, but he's going to be here next week because one of my best friends playing in the Masters, too.
