Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome the captain of 4Aces GC, Dustin Johnson. You had an incredible round of 69 today. It's a really strong round considering how difficult this course is playing. Tell us about how you managed it.
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, it was really solid. Just played well all day. A couple bad bogeys, but you're going to make them out here with the course and the conditions. But yeah, I'm really pleased with how I played, drove it really nicely, gave myself a lot of chances, and yeah, was just really solid tee to green. Rolled in a couple nice putts, but yeah, overall was -- yeah, very pleased with how it went.
Q. Obviously you played really well in Singapore. You're playing well now. You're getting hot at the right time of the year heading into the first major of the season. What have you been working on to get to this place?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: A little bit of everything. I was actually playing really good going into Hong Kong and then just tweaked my back. I think I slept funny and my neck was tight. I obviously didn't play very well the first couple days there and then played good on Sunday and kind of rolled into Singapore. Yeah, the game has been pretty solid, and looking forward to a couple more good days here and then obviously next week.
Q. Obviously this course requires an incredible amount of patience. Do you feel like that's a strong suit of your game?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I mean, I like the tough conditions. I like tough golf courses. I think it's a good -- it's really good going into next week, too, because you've got to hit so many different kind of golf shots here, and you have to hit them in the right spot and in the right small sections of the green.
I think this golf course is very demanding, and I've always liked it. Yeah, looking forward to the next couple days.
Q. Same thing I asked of Reed; the 4Aces are currently sitting at even par, which is second place. You're only two shots behind the Crushers. Obviously all four scores count, but what's the opportunity for the 4Aces to return to glory this week at the Blue Monster?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, we played well in Singapore. Obviously we had a little bit of a lead going into Sunday and fell a little bit short. But it was a solid week for us, and I think everybody is starting to play pretty well. But still two more rounds. We've all four got to play well the next two days if we want a chance to win.
Q. Compared to the last three years, now that FOX Sports has covered the event today compared to CW, did you notice anything different as a player as far as the coverage today?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I mean, I was on the course so I couldn't watch the coverage. I didn't notice anything. I was playing golf.
Q. You were on the range late Wednesday night or afternoon. I wonder what you're working on. Are you getting ready for Augusta, or is that just general practice? Claude talked about "gamifying." Has any of that struck you as helping?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I mean, yeah, just been working on the game, period. I don't know what you're asking there with the last part of the question.
Q. He said you guys were working on a drill where you're trying to count your points of the yardages.
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, that's kind of always in the practice, but yeah, just hitting certain shots and certain distances. Yeah, kind of just working everything, short game, putting, kind of the whole game just because this course demands all parts of your game. So does next week. It's a great time to get as much work in as I can.
Q. You won the Masters five years ago; how would you compare the DJ of today as you're rounding into form to that DJ of 2020?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: It's close. Obviously I was playing really good at the end of 2020. But the game I feel like it's getting pretty close to that. Obviously it's a really fine line to being that good or just a little bit off, but yeah, I've got a lot of confidence in my game right now.
