Quick Quotes
Q. 3-under opening round here. Your thoughts on today's first round?
ANDIE SMITH: It was a lot of patience out there. Just appreciating the moment and the stage that we're on and not stressing myself out too much.
But like I said, just enjoying the round, enjoying the time out here on this course. I have a local caddie, so we had fun out there.
Q. You had five straight pars, and then you got a birdie on the next hole. How did that feel kind of getting that first birdie to roll in? Did that kind of get you going a little bit?
ANDIE SMITH: Yeah, I would say so. I would say the first couple holes is definitely adjusting to the nerves of playing in this event for the first time. But I just remembered to stay patient and know that it's going to come in due time.
So when I got to roll that birdie in, I settled in with my nerves. It was good from there on out.
Q. Then you par the rest of the way in, kind of had two birdies on the back nine. How did that back nine feel for you?
ANDIE SMITH: I'd say very steady. Like I said before, just staying very patient out there. It's a tough golf course. We're playing against the best in the world here.
So just really -- yeah, I'd say staying patient, letting the birdies come to you, not forcing anything.
Q. You've probably seen this on TV and stuff the last number of years. How special is it to kind of be here and be with four other Duke family members?
ANDIE SMITH: It's awesome watching this the past couple years and knowing that one day I would be here. It's really a full circle moment. To have my family and my friends here supporting me, it means the world.
Q. And what about having four other Duke golfers here competing along with you?
ANDIE SMITH: Yeah, having them too. It's a great support system that we have, and getting to reconnect with Emma and Phoebe, who I haven't seen in probably six months, it's just great, yeah.
