AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 1, 2025

Eunseo Choi

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. We were talking about the Malibu fires and Palisades fires. Whenever you were starting your first semester in January, what was going through your mind when you heard, oh, my gosh, I'm flying into a chaotic situation with these fires? Were you worried about the campus? Were you worried about where you were going?

EUNSEO CHOI: I was very worried about the campus because I didn't know what was going on. Like second time in America, I'm like, oh, my gosh, if we don't stay on campus, where am I going? I've got this new student orientation going on; am I going to miss it? Am I going to be able to make friends?

But Coach really took care of me well, and I was going around with Jeneath, as well, because Jeneath was coming in from Australia with me, so that was really fun.

Honestly, I'm pretty lucky that I didn't come in alone and that Coach and Jeneath was with me. So I wasn't too worried.

Q. Keeping your eye on the prize whenever you have to deal with something that's extreme like that and you're really just coming in to start playing and practicing, how did you keep focused on getting to Augusta while all of that was happening? Because you had to actually go to LA, right? How did you hone in on that and focus in?

EUNSEO CHOI: So lucky me, I was not very affected, and the fact that we kind of had to be online for the first week of school. Our campus was very lucky to have electricity and power back really quickly because it was only about a week or two that we didn't get any electricity, and it was pretty cool, but it was okay.

I think just focusing on my golf and just having my teammates with me really helped me -- like we all focused on our golf. They're like very driven towards their passions, so I guess that really helped me stay focused.

Q. Did you see flames? Did you see the extent of the fires? Were you worried because they had to evacuate your university. Were you worried?

EUNSEO CHOI: I was pretty worried at one point because there were a couple people on campus, as well, and we could just -- we were driving by and we could see the flames and the red kind of like coming towards us, so we were just driving away like, oh, no, what do we do. But I guess God really protected us, and yeah, I'm very thankful for that.
