AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 1, 2025

Lottie Woad

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How different when you think back to where you were standing there a year ago so now being a defending champion, how different is it?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, it's definitely different. Different feelings coming back here. I'm still just trying to do what I was doing last year, get some good practice in on the practice day and just really get ready for tomorrow and not try and change too much.

Q. How does your familiarity with the course change your preparation, if at all?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, it definitely helps playing this course more, but I feel like this year it feels a little softer than maybe it's been. It's a little different to adjust to that. But I mean, I pretty much know what I'm hitting off the tee and the lines and stuff like that, which kind of speeds up on the practice rounds more and you can focus more on the the greens.

Q. Playing like it was this morning and drying out as you go through your round, what was the biggest challenge of that?

LOTTIE WOAD: I think the greens just speed up a little bit when the dew gets off it and maybe the ball skips on a little bit more, so you've just got to kind of adjust for maybe the back nine.

Q. What's the hardest shot at Augusta National?

LOTTIE WOAD: I feel like the 12th, the par-3. The wind is usually swirling around there. It's a pretty small green to hit anyway, and then you throw that in. I'm pretty happy if I get away with hitting the green there.

Q. Obviously you did pretty well last year out there. What was your strategy when you got to the 12th?

LOTTIE WOAD: Kind of just going over the right edge of that bunker. The pin, I think, was on the right, so you weren't really -- you shouldn't really be going at that, so just kind of played for the middle of the green and then hit there and then two-putt.

Q. What can you say about this place being a past champion and everything that Augusta National is, what is it like to come here and compete?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, it's cool. I always love coming back here. Definitely feels a little bit different. But I mean, it's all good things, and just really looking forward to it.

Q. I think it was 49 of the top 50 players in the world amateur rankings are competing this week at the tournament. What does that say about the competitive field that you guys have, and what do you think about that?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, it's a great field. This event always has one of the best fields that we play in. It's just great that we get to play against all these people, especially some people that we maybe don't see at college, get to test ourselves against them, as well.

Q. Are you somebody that visualizes a round before it happens? Do you play it in your mind?

LOTTIE WOAD: Not loads, but maybe in the warmup if I had to hit a certain tee shot I'll probably make sure I hit that before the round. I usually play like a straight-ish ball maybe to a little draw with driver, but if some of the holes require a fade, just playing that, as well.

Q. Are there any shots that you find yourself replaying in your mind from that final round quite often?

LOTTIE WOAD: I mean, not that often, but I feel like the putt on 18 is the one that I remember most. Yeah, that one I've watched the most.

Q. Can you describe what it felt like in that moment when that putt went in? Did you have chills? What were the feelings that came over you?

LOTTIE WOAD: I think the main one was relief after losing the lead and then getting it back. I think I was glad that it was over and that I managed to do it.
