AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 1, 2025

Tsubasa Kajitani

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How does it feel to be back as a past champion?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: It's nice to be back, obviously, as a past champion. There's some part that reminds me of the time I won, but then there's also places that have changed a little bit on the course. It's nice to feel kind of fresh at the same time.

Q. I know you've played a little bit of college golf in the U.S.; are you playing any golf back in Japan? When was your last tournament?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: I haven't played any tournaments in Japan.

Q. What was the last time you played in a tournament?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: It was a while ago, like about a year ago, and it was in college. So in America.

Q. Are you working? Do you have a job in Japan or are you studying?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: I stopped playing golf once, and I started working a little bit in Japan, but I realized how much I like golf and how much I like competing in tournaments, so I started playing again, and now I'm here.

Q. When did you start practicing again?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: October last year.

Q. What was the job?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: I was working for Callaway, but not for clubs but for clothes.

Q. What are your future plans after this tournament in golf?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: I'm planning on turning pro in Japan and will play Q-school over there. As of right now, I'm trying to prepare for it as I'm playing some tournaments before Q-school. But after that, I'd like to come back to America and compete again, like on the LPGA Tour.

Q. Will you be playing amateur tournaments in Japan before Q-school or professional tournaments?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: Amateur.

Q. And then turn pro for Q-school in Japan?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: Yes.

Q. How did winning this tournament change your life, and did you feel a lot of pressure after you won?

TSUBASA KAJITANI: It was nice to be able to play a lot of tournaments, major tournaments as an amateur, but it's also a little bit of stress to have those opportunities as an amateur. I also have gone through a lot of struggle within the family, and that was really tough for me. But my love for golf didn't change throughout the time, and that's why I'm here still, and so I'm really happy to be here and play golf.
