Press Conference
P. BADOSA/Wang Xinyu
6-3, 7-6
THE MODERATOR: Paula, talk us through your thoughts on the match, how pleased you were to get through that first-round win.
PAULA BADOSA: It's always tough to start these kind of tournaments. I think she was a very tricky opponent. She played really, really well. I fought through it pretty well. In the important moments I think I had to run a lot. I'm happy that I got the win, yeah.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. What do you eat before a match, and how do you fuel during it to keep the energy levels high?
PAULA BADOSA: Well, I'm pretty simple on that. I think I eat always the same things: protein like salmon, chicken, then some rice and vegetables.
I always do the same since all my career, and it worked really well. I think for the moment I'm not going to change.
Q. And during a match?
PAULA BADOSA: During the match? I don't eat much. I struggle with that a little bit. I go with a banana, not a lot of sugar. It doesn't feel good in my body with the ups and the lows. I try to maintain my body pretty stable. I think the banana helps me.
Sometimes I go with, like, nothing. I like my body to respond on it. I think, yeah, that's what I do. Nothing special.
Q. I know the psychology of the sport is important to you. If you're playing someone who you have lost to a few times before, how do you stay positive? Do you try and change things in that kind of matchup?
PAULA BADOSA: I think every match is different. I don't really think about the head-to-head. I think sometimes, especially now lately, doesn't even matter because it depends a little bit of the day, how are you feeling, how are you feeling mentally, tennis-wise, physical-wise.
Now it can change, anything can happen in any match.
