ZURICH CLASSIC OF NEW ORLEANS

April 25, 2024

Davis Thompson

Andrew Novak

Avondale, Louisiana, USA

TPC Louisiana

Press Conference

ANDREW NOVAK: I think early on, he was kind of really balling out. Hit a lot of good shots, a lot of good chips early, made a few putts. It wasn't anything too special on the front nine. I feel like we just kind of got the ones that were the easier holes. We were in position --

DAVIS THOMPSON: Played the par-5s 5-under. He hit a great shot in on 2 and made eagle. Just kind of coasted in. He made a great putt on 6 and I got off to a good start early. It was just kind of a ham-and-egg kind of day.

Q. (Indiscernible) how you want to approach today?

ANDREW NOVAK: I feel like we just kind of played our own games for the most part. He teed off first every hole, and he was hitting it so good off the tee, I was never really stressed out when I was hitting. We just kind of played our own game, and I think we were out there trying to make birdies because it was pretty gettable. We were the first group out on the day, so the greens were rolling perfect. Wasn't too windy, so we could kind of go at things. There are some birdies out there the way it's set up today.

I think we just did a pretty good job of -- he'd get a few and I got a few.

Q. What was your expectation for today? What did you think you needed to do today?

DAVIS THOMPSON: In my mind I felt like double digits was very attainable. I felt like obviously just take advantage of the par-5s, and the par-4s you have wedges in, and try to make birdie there. The par-3s are tough out here. I was just trying to get two looks on every par-3, and I feel like we did that for the most part except for the last hole.

It was a solid day.

Q. How much did the conditions change? It feels like the wind is just starting to pick up.

ANDREW NOVAK: It picked up a little bit, but it's not too bad. We've had a lot worse wind so far this year. I'm sure the guys in the Dominican last week are not even feeling any wind right now. It didn't change too much I didn't think.

Q. (No microphone.)

DAVIS THOMPSON: Yeah, we play a lot of golf at home together. We both live in St. Simons, both have the same agency, too, so --

Q. Just destiny?

DAVIS THOMPSON: I think so. He's a pretty good player, too.
