JM EAGLE LA CHAMPIONSHIP

April 25, 2024

Hannah Green

Los Angeles, California, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Hannah Green. Hannah, we were just talking about it. I just called you Miss Defending Champion. Seems everyone has been calling you that every day this week.

Overall how are you feeling here after the first day here in your title defense?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I put a solid round together, which was really nice. It was kind of funny. Even though I played the practice rounds and the pro-am, still remembering shots and putts that I made from last year.

It's nice that I have fond memories of this place. I putted pretty good today. I felt like we got lucky in the morning. They weren't too bumpy. I actually didn't hit my wedges very well, but I'll go and hit some balls later.

Still very solid round considering I'm, yeah, defending champion.

Q. Was it nice to get a birdie on 18 on the first day?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, in the scorer's tent Mike was like, I think you've made birdie like four or five times the last six timed I've played. I was like, wow, that's pretty unusual for 18.

Played the par-3s really well today, so that was very helpful.

Q. You started on the back nine. What do you like most about those back nine holes that really suit your game?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, so they actually moved the tee up on 15 so it was nice to be able to reach it in two. I had a 5-iron in so kind of felt like a par-4 in a sense.

Yeah, just made a really good putt on the 13th hole, and, yeah, just put myself in good positions and gave myself uphill putts. There was a couple times where I had some downhill putts and you just can't be aggressive at all.

Q. What's the downhill putt that sticks out in your mind?

HANNAH GREEN: So I three-putted the third hole. It wasn't even that much of a downhill putt, but got to like six feet away from me and then I just misread the next putt coming back up.

Yeah, it's hard. Even though you might hit it to 10-foot and assume you've got a good chance to make birdie, sometimes you're better off having like a few feet more and having an uphill putt.

Q. Fellow Aussie on top of the leaderboard, Grace Kim, 7-under day. Also had a nice birdie chip on 18 that I was able to witness.

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah.

Q. I know you guys played a practice round together. Did you give her any advice walking into this week?

HANNAH GREEN: I don't really think so. She always plays really solid. I feel like she's been maybe struggling a little bit with the putter, so it's probably nice for her to have some putts go in.

I assuming if she shot 7-under she also hit it very well. Yeah, Gracie, I think she's a really talented player. Really nice to see other Aussies doing well.

Obviously only round one, but I hope that her form continues for the rest of the week.

Q. What is it about Aussies and this course in general? Something that sticks out to you?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I don't know. I don't really think there are many courses -- well, WA -- but with the bunkering it's kind of similar. We get poana in Australia, but I think you have to hit the ball really solid and there are some demanding shots and some shorter holes where you have to capitalize.

I don't know why the Aussies play well here. Obviously Minjee won here before as well. Yeah, just trying to do our best.
