Patrick Cantlay

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA

Harbour Town Golf Links

Quick Quotes

Q. What went into the decision to come back?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Just thought it might be easier to get the ball up-and-down this morning.

Q. Could you see very well last night?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I saw okay. It got dark, but yeah, I could see okay.

Q. An important putt.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it was just misting and raining, and I figured if I gave myself a better chance of getting it up-and-down this morning, I might as well.

Q. Last night in the fairway you and Joey were kind of going over that shot pretty good. Was that more whether to hit it or what club to take in?

PATRICK CANTLAY: A little of both. I really did want to finish last night, so I felt like if I could get the ball up there maybe in an easier spot, maybe I would have finished, but as I got the ball up near the green, I realized it would be easier to finish this morning. That's what I decided to do.

Q. Did you practice lag putts this morning?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Putted around for about 20, 30 minutes and then came out here.

Q. Overall takeaway this week, feeling good about where you are, the direction you're going?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, played solid. Need to clean up a few things, as always, but headed into a week that I really like, New Orleans this week with Xander, and we've had some success there, so already looking forward to it.

Q. Even as a guy trying to beat him, is it fun as a player to see what Scottie is doing?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I'm just concerned with what I've got going on. He's shooting really low scores seems like every week. I don't think he's playing next week, and I'll have a partner.

Q. It's probably hard to impress you guys, but how impressed are you by the fact that he's been able to do it week after week?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it's very impressive. He's played great for a while now, a number of years, and it seems like he is playing the best golf of his life right now.

Q. What do you have coming up after New Orleans?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Wells Fargo and PGA.

Q. You should be used to it by now, but do you feel like the majors are coming up quick? Masters just ended a week ago and we're three weeks away from the next one. Do you like the cadence of it?

PATRICK CANTLAY: We've been on this schedule for a number of years now. Seems like there's a big tournament every month starting in March, and if you count the FedExCup and THE PLAYERS, there's a big tournament every week, and I think it's just something we're used to by now.

Q. What would be your history at Valhalla?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I've never been there.

Q. Are you the kind of guy that would watch majors on TV?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I've seen -- I've seen the tournament on TV. I think Tiger beat Bob May there, right?

Q. What were you, eight?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I had to be very little, maybe nine. Yeah, I've heard they've done a lot of changes to the golf course, so looking forward to seeing it for the first time. I'll probably take a scouting trip early, and looking forward to it.

Q. If you did a scouting trip, would it be before you go over to Charlotte type thing?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Something like that, just either on the front end or the back end of a tournament. Yeah, just learn the golf course so it's not my first time going around there the week of the tournament.

Q. It's always helpful to see a major course you've not seen before you get there, but you can also just do it that week except during the week it's usually six-hour slugs during those practice rounds. Is there an ideal formula?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I think the more times you can see a place the better, and the weeks of majors are really busy. I think being fresh and having energy is important, too, so you don't want to play too many holes that week with 150 guys there.

Like I said, I'll probably get up there and play at least a round before the tournament week starts.
