INVITED CELEBRITY CLASSIC

April 19, 2024

Derek Lowe

Irving, Texas, USA

Las Colinas Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. What was going well?

DEREK LOWE: I hit a lot of fairways, which is always important for my game because my short game is my weakness. So fairways and greens.

I had a few hiccups, but I kept telling my good friend Ryan, it's Friday, just try to hang in there. Historically I have not played very well here, so I'm very, very, very happy with today's round.

Q. And the confidence level coming in based on how you've been playing and how much you've been playing?

DEREK LOWE: Yeah, I haven't played a lot. I'm going with the Mardy Fish route. My wife and I went to Argentina for 16 days, then we went to Boston for the 20th anniversary, so I haven't played. Like Mardy, this is what he normally doesn't play, so I did a crash course for the test basically.

Q. What's your history on playing well day one and what happens day two and three?

DEREK LOWE: Time will tell. Obviously tomorrow is a coin flip for all of us. We've got 60 degrees, 100 percent chance of rain. But I've always said you've just got to deal with it because we're all playing in the same situation. Again, anytime you play in these events, you want day one to be successful so you know you have a chance moving forward.

Q. What's your history head-to-head against Fish, head-to-head against Romo?

DEREK LOWE: Not good and not good.
