Patrick Rodgers

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA

Harbour Town Golf Links

Quick Quotes

Q. How would you characterize the round today?

PATRICK RODGERS: I'm always pleased with 5-under par around here. You really have to earn it. You can't really get away with much. It's so narrow, both on the tee shots and the approach shots. But yeah, gave myself a lot of opportunities to score, and super pleased with the result.

Q. Do you find with how defined the tee shots are, even the second shots, do you find that helps to heighten your focus a little bit more?

PATRICK RODGERS: Absolutely. I was talking with my caddie Chad about that earlier in the week. I tend to drive it better on golf courses that are like this. Sometimes when you're at a place that's super wide open, that doesn't really define the edges on either side, you just feel like you have so much room, you don't make as committed of a swing.

I love that it asks a very specific question on every tee shot, on every approach shot, and it's a fun challenge to try to navigate.

Q. Where do you feel like your game is right now and this year as we continue along into the thick part of the year?

PATRICK RODGERS: Yeah, I feel like my game is in a good place. Hit a little bit of a speed bump the past month on TOUR, some performances that weren't up to my standard. But there's a lot more to this job than just playing golf, and life is throwing its challenges our direction. Not in a bad way, just life on TOUR with two kids is a new challenge for us this year, and we're figuring it out and trying to take it in stride.

I'm lucky to have such a great support system at home that lets me come out here and try to play my best.

Q. How has having the second child changed your time management strategies?

PATRICK RODGERS: Yeah, it's felt like a big adjustment. It felt like a big adjustment when my son was born three years ago, going from not being a parent to being a parent is a massive shift. I think to be honest I underestimated what it would be like having two, but it's hard work in the best way. My kids are wonderful. They're very easy. But I think for me emotionally, I feel maybe more torn between two places than I have ever felt. I'm desperate to be home and spend time with both my kids and my wife, and I'm desperate to be the best player in the world, and to kind of be pulled different directions so much is a new challenge, but yeah, it's all good stuff, and we're figuring it out.

Q. Do you feel like both those can coincide and go together instead of maybe being separate?

PATRICK RODGERS: Yeah, for sure. There's great examples of guys doing an awesome job of it, guys that I've always looked up to. Yeah, it's still new for my family, and yeah, we're figuring it out as we go.
