MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 14, 2024

Xander Schauffele

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Xander, how was the last day here?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Just not very good golf. Hit some decent shots, missed a few short putts today early, which sort of threw me out of it. I tried to get going there, told myself if I can shoot 6-under on the back nine, it would have been something special but not enough based on the way things are looking.

Three-putting 10 was no good, and just kind of righting the ship in from there.

Q. Throughout the week there were changes happening and you started seeing --

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: For sure there's some good stuff in there. Still working through it. It's still fresh. Still fresh in my mind. Still have a few too many things that I'm thinking about while I'm competing. If I could kind of limit it down to one or two versus three or four, that would probably be helpful.

All in all, a bit deflating overall, but excited with where my game is going.

Q. How does it feel seeing that Scottie went and played his own golf course today. Is there any relief or comfort in that?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: It's just what he's been doing. Yeah, it's been a while since we've had a guy out here that tees it up and he's supposed to win and he wins. I feel like we've had a bit of a bounce-back with three or four guys for that top spot, and he's cruising along pretty nicely.

Q. How was the golf course today compared to yesterday?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: It was maybe a little bit softer overall. Some of those greens got pretty crusty there at the end. Coverage seemed a little bit softer this morning from what I was looking at, and with a little bit of breeze it dried up. I thought it was fair, and they definitely had some accessible pins if you were in the right spots.

Q. What's it feel like to be chasing a guy who's on a tear like this?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: It's great. I've said it before, I really like my job, so Scottie is the one who has to stay motivated. He's doing a great job doing that. But I have a long way to go to catch someone like him. I have a lot of work on my plate, and that'll continue for quite some time.

Yeah, just congratulations to him. It looks like he's going to pack this one up here coming up 18.

Q. Overall how do you feel like you played today?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Not great. If I look at this week, I hit some short game shots that I couldn't in the past. Just trying to be half full right now. Other than that, I didn't execute some shots that I really needed throughout the week. Played the par-5s finally decent today but kind of in an ugly way. For the most part if I go back, I think the par-5s are really what hurt me.
