MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 13, 2024

Bryson DeChambeau

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Bryson, nice finish after a tough closing stretch. How would you sum up your day?

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: I hung in there. Missed wedge shot on 9; great birdie on 10; three-putt 11; two-putt 12; three-putt 13; make a birdie on 14; get a pretty horrific break on 15, and then dropped it and just nestled down, and I had nothing.

16, three-putt; 17, almost three-putt; 18 hole I just figured was easier than putting, jokingly obviously.

Yeah, I'm going to look back on this one and try to figure out how to putt well, putt better on these greens and control the speed a little bit more. I haven't been able to use the foresight on the putting green, which is another variable that gets thrown in, which is totally fine. I've got to be able to conquer it. Nobody else is doing it, and they're able to putt just fine.

I've got to learn. Just like the greens books. We're not able to use greens books out here, I've had to learn and adjust to that. This is just another step. I've got to figure out, when the greens get this firm, this crisp, how to control the speed just a little bit better.

Q. Completely different on Thursday?

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: I mean, 180 degrees different, yeah. I'm talking they're probably rolling what I thought was like 11s, and they're up to 13, 14s on some putts, especially on 13.

I hit a great putt, and that thing just rolled seven feet by. I hit it literally three feet, and it should have been a 1 1/2 footer. It was tough.

Q. Can you take us through 15?

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Yeah, I was trying to hit a shot around into the bunker. It just clipped a tree and shot back to the right. I was fortunate to get relief, and then ultimately I just dropped it in a fluffy little lie and thought it was a hard win, and it was not.

Q. So the mindset for tomorrow?

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: I'm four back.

Q. You're chasing.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Yep, I'm excited.

Q. Is there something you're telling yourself out there today when you're kind of rolling through the punches and trying to get a break and the breaks aren't going your way? What are you telling yourself?

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: G was out there helping me stay somewhat positive. It's not easy when the course conditions aren't just kind of lending to your favor, and just the breaks aren't going your way is what I mean by that.

You just have to stay positive no matter what. I had a great break on 18. I'll take that any day of the week.

Q. Is there a number in mind tomorrow? How do you chase on this golf course?

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: It's very difficult to chase, but I'm going to take what I can on this golf course where I can, and I've got to make some putts. If I can make some putts tomorrow, I think I can have a good opportunity.

Q. Bryson, you played a lot of different formats of golf on the YouTube channel. It's been fun to watch.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Thank you.

Q. Playing the forward tees.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Break 50, yeah.

Q. Do you think that's made you a better player at all?

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: I think it's made me definitely more versatile in my thought process. Doesn't lock me into just one thing. I think it definitely has helped, sure.

Q. Do you think it's helped here in particular?

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: I don't know about that. There's nothing that can replicate what Augusta National is. When you come out here, you just have to experience it and get comfortable with it through experience, unfortunately. Thank you.
