MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 13, 2024

Cam Smith

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Birdie and a bogey, how do you evaluate the round?

CAM SMITH: It's just really solid. Solid ball striking. I couldn't have done much more, I don't think, with the irons today. I think you had to struggle to get the ball in the hole. I think there were so many times out there whereas close as you can hit it is kind of five or ten foot, and it's breaking a foot or two down the hill.

It was just one of those days I couldn't quite match up the speed and the line. Yeah, I feel like it could have been probably a lot better today.

Q. Do you think you can -- you're the sort of guy that can turn the putting around with a quick session on the practice putting green after? Do you sort of hope maybe tonight you can do that? Can you turn the putter around?

CAM SMITH: I don't think I hit bad putts. I just couldn't get the ball in the hole. It's just one of those days. I probably hit a bad putt there on the last to be fair.

Other than that, I can't think of one that I'd want to have again. Just kind of frustrating. I feel like my game's in a really good spot and I've done everything right and not much has gone right.

On than that, so, yeah, frustrated.

Q. Given that you didn't have the kind of prep work that you wanted to, though, can you still take solace in the fact you're going into the final round and you can go low, maybe something good can happen?

CAM SMITH: Yeah, I think I'm still in the golf tournament. The way that the golf course is playing, I feel really confident with my ball striking, probably the best I've felt in a while. Yeah, I feel like I'm in the golf tournament. It's only one or two their way and one or two my way, and it's really close.

Just got to keep grinding it out. Yeah, like you said, just a little session on the green and hopefully it will sort it out.

Q. You've been pretty good in the past at acknowledging that, when you are hitting good putts, you just wait for that day to come. Is that where you're at at the moment?

CAM SMITH: I'm past that point, I think (laughter). I think given the first two days with how firm it was and then how windy it was, I'm sure I wasn't the only one hitting good putts out there that were missing. Just got to keep it in good putts. I know what I'm doing. Not much has changed. It's just -- yeah, they've just got to go in.

Q. Is it a fairly attacking mentality tomorrow? Do you have any other choice?

CAM SMITH: I mean, you can't at the moment. If you start playing the golf course that way, I can see where that heads. I've been down that road before. I'd like to think I'm a pretty smart golfer. I've just got to keep doing what I'm doing, hitting it to 15, 20 feet, and hopefully they go in tomorrow.
