MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 13, 2024

Shane Lowry

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Big positive with the eagle; how was that?

SHANE LOWRY: If I could have been myself for ten minutes today, that was the only positive about that. Yeah, this game giveth and it taketh away. Yeah, it was nice.

Obviously I thought after that, if I could make one more birdie and shoot under par, it wouldn't be a bad day, and it quickly went away from me.

Yeah, disappointing day, but what can you do? I feel like I'm playing the golf to be there or thereabouts, but, yeah, just not scoring well.

Q. How frustrating is it for you when you've played really good golf here as well?

SHANE LOWRY: I've driven the ball well, but I've made a lot of silly mistakes. Even that bogey on 17, that's just stupid really. I was a good but out with a couple of shots today numbers-wise, and you're putting pressure on yourself to put it close because you don't feel like you can hole a putt.

One of those days, but live to fight another day, I suppose.

Q. I saw Rory with the narrative coming back here for him. He said I'll do my best and I'll come back again.

SHANE LOWRY: That's the attitude I have, yeah. I'll go out tomorrow and shoot the best score I can, and I'll go out to Hilton Head next week and give it a go again. It's the only thing you can do in this game.

Unfortunately, the game that we play, there's more days like this than there is good days. I'm old enough now and mature enough now to take it on the chin and move on.

Q. Is it like exiting the traffic light?

SHANE LOWRY: The thing is, and you can also feel really bad about yourself there if things are going against you. You just have to look at the leaderboard and look at the scores, and it's just tough.

It's one of these places that, yeah, if you hit it in the right places and get on a run and are hitting good shots, it feels right. You get behind the black ball out there a few times, it feels like it's so hard.

Q. (Regarding the roller coaster tomorrow.)

SHANE LOWRY: No, I have no other choice. That's the thing with this game. Get up tomorrow and go play Augusta National on a Sunday at the Masters. There could be a lot worse things. There's a lot worse things happening in the world.

Now I've got to go do a bit of practice and try to figure out something and hopefully go out there and shoot a December number tomorrow.

I'll have a goal of going out there and maybe breaking 70 tomorrow. If I do that, I'll be pretty happy.

Q. Going back to 14, it wasn't looking like a 2.

SHANE LOWRY: I knew from the moment you got there, I got a gap. It was just a perfect gap. I knew I had a little bit of room to play with on the left. It was one of those, bit of luck, bit of fortune.

Q. Can I ask about Ludvig Ã…berg, your perception of playing with him in the Ryder Cup. He's 5-under for the tournament, his first major.

SHANE LOWRY: We've all said it, though. I think he's a future world No. 1. I don't need to say any more about him. He's got a really, really, really bright future ahead of him. He's already done a few great things in the game, and I'm sure he'll do many more.

It would be nice to see him give it a run this weekend.

Q. Obviously the wind wasn't killing you guys today, but is the setup that much harder?

SHANE LOWRY: Still going 10 miles an hour out there. You're down there trying to pick a club on the 12th hole, it doesn't take much out there. It's not pumping like it was yesterday, but 10 miles an hour out here is still tough.

Yeah, it's a tough wind too because it feels like it's blowing across the golf course. It doesn't help you a whole lot on a lot of shots, so yeah.
