MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 12, 2024

Tommy Fleetwood

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How does even feel given these conditions and how tough it's playing this afternoon?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Even?

Q. Did you birdie the last?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yes.

Q. I didn't see it.

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Thanks, Dan.

Q. How does 1-under feel?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Unbelievable. Way better than even.

Yeah, it was just a scrap all day. I mean, the course is hard enough without like the conditions that they've had.

It's just like, I don't know, nothing's ever done, like nothing's safe ever, like whether you've got a three-footer or whatever it is, you're just never done until you've actually got the ball in the hole. So it's like a pretty stressful place to play when it's like this.

Q. How is Gray doing?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Awesome. I've known Gray since the first time I came here, and I asked him to do it when I knew like I needed a caddie, and I thought he'd be perfect. Just like a wonderful human being. I've loved every second out here with him.

Q. What year was that?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: 2017 was my first year I played the Masters, and I had a couple of practice runs with Gray.

Q. When you say that nothing is ever finished out here, that sounds very tiring. Do you just finish up, and you go ready to take a nap, or what's the effect on you?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I think you're happy when you're finished. You can just kind of sit back and watch the rest do it. For our group as well, we've played the most holes today. So we started out on the 11th fairway this morning. It wasn't easy to start with, and it just kept getting harder as the day went on.

I think we've had a pretty long day of it, but at the end of the day, it's a major, and it's the Masters, and I think you don't always get conditions like these, of course.

There's times when Augusta is the most amazing place because you can hear all the roars going on and there's so many opportunities with the eagles on the back nine and stuff like that. Today that's out of the question.

If you look at it with the mindset that you're going to enjoy the grind out there and just keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep going and see where you finish, I think that's all you can do really.

Q. What do you need to touch up this weekend?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I don't know. It's hard to assess your game in those conditions really. I think I'm really happy with how I stuck in there today. So this morning -- I got off to a hot start yesterday, and this morning I shot 3-over on the front nine. Then I was really keen to try to get that back today. I shot 2-under on it so I felt like I got that back.

I really don't know. It's hard to assess anything about your game in these conditions when you feel like I hit some great shots that just can't even hit the green and stuff like that.

We'll see what the conditions bring. For the time being, I just want to rest up and look forward to the weekend.

Q. Do you have any (indiscernible) or anything you try to do on different holes on days like this?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I think, if anything, I think if anything for me, it actually helps my mindset a lot of the time because I've become far more accepting about the shots I hit, and I don't think about my swing or I don't try to be too perfect. I think it helps me in that respect, like patience really.

It's easy as well -- like I bogeyed the 2nd today. The easiest thing to do is try and force your way back to try to get something out of it, and literally the course was going to give you nothing. So I think just doing a good job of staying patient and actually hitting the shots that are given to you really.

I don't know, today I did a good job of it. Tomorrow might be a different story. So far, so good.
