MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 11, 2024

Jake Knapp

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Can you characterize how the conditions changed during the round as the wind picked up?

JAKE KNAPP: Yeah, it got really challenging I'd say once we got to No. 7 or 8. The wind started to pick up pretty good, and it doesn't look like it's going to let up anytime soon, so definitely made the course a bit tougher on the back nine.

Q. From watching it on TV earlier it looked like you had a quintessential Augusta moment on the tee. What was going through your mind there?

JAKE KNAPP: Yeah, it's just a tough little shot when it's this windy. The wind is coming from a certain direction all day, and then all of a sudden you feel it come from a completely different direction.

Especially after watching Erik's shot and what his did, it kind of looked like it got a lot of help in the air, and we kind of waited for the wind to settle down and waited for the wind we needed for our shot.

Q. What did you hit?

JAKE KNAPP: I hit 8-iron.

Q. I know the big career-changing moment in Mexico; when you teed it up here today in your first Masters, what kind of thoughts were running through your mind?

JAKE KNAPP: I mean, I think we got kind of all the excitement and all that stuff out of the way the first visit out here. Obviously being here with the galleries and everything else is pretty special. But did our best to just focus on the shots at hand and felt like I did a good job today. Struggled on the greens a bit, but felt like we just did a good job of taking it shot by shot and going about our business.

Q. Two years ago this week, would you have still been doing the part-time bouncer work?

JAKE KNAPP: Yes. Yeah.

Q. I thought it extended into that spring.

JAKE KNAPP: Yeah, I did it until May of '22.

Q. A little different being here?

JAKE KNAPP: Yeah, slightly.

Q. 2-under after 9 and a bit of trouble on the back, how do you regroup for tomorrow?

JAKE KNAPP: Yeah, not too much to regroup on, to be honest. It's playing tough on that back side with this much wind. I felt like I drove it well and hit the ball well. Just missed some putts I usually don't.

Just got a few approach shots wrong with kind of wind direction or what number we probably should have been trying to land it. Cleaned a few of those up, and it's a better day.

Q. Weather delays, nothing unusual on the TOUR, but what was it like waiting two and a half hours to tee off in your first Masters?

JAKE KNAPP: Yeah, it was kind of a bummer having to set an alarm for 5:00, then set an alarm for 6:00, then set an alarm for 7:00, just kind of see what we were going to do. But we're used to just going when we have to go. Once we got the notification, we were ready to go at it.
