AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 4, 2024

Casey Weidenfeld

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. You're in the house after two rounds at even par. You have creative writing skills. How do you write -- is that story -- how does that match up?

CASEY WEIDENFELD: Well, I have had like some okay golf the last few weeks. Like played well at the Darius Rucker, but didn't play so great at Valspar and the Liz Murphey.

So I was coming in with some like hoping to make the cut, but like seeing where it goes, especially as it's my first time out here. Kind of surreal right now.

Q. A lot of the players still finishing up the second round, trying to get inside the cut line, dealing with the wind. What was it like coming down the stretch out there? Just trying to paint a pick between yesterday and today.

CASEY WEIDENFELD: Yeah, well the wind is very brutal out there today. I hit some good shots, like 18 feet, 15 feet coming in. Good looks, but with the wind you back off almost every putt because it's just swirling.

Then like 16, hybrid in, and then 17 and 18 are playing really long today. So just trying to make to happen. Get pars. Pars are good out here.

Q. What are some of the maybe things you're talking about with your caddie when you're out there? We have a lot of people watching this tournament worldwide. They're going to play in the wind someday maybe at their home club. What advice would you give just the regular weekend golfer to dealing with conditions like today?

CASEY WEIDENFELD: Just is be patient. If a shot goes haywire because of the wind don't fret as much because it's going to happen. It's just brutal. There were a lot of three-club winds or hitting at edges of greens. You just got to be open minded.

Q. Tapped in for par on 18. Huge round of applause from the gallery. Talk about who is with you this week.

CASEY WEIDENFELD: Yeah, so my mom is here, my dad, my cousin is here. The Auburn coaches are -- one of the Auburn coaches is here and her husband. It was really nice. And my golf coach was also here but had to leave.

So, uh-huh.

Q. A lot of people in the media center going to be writing -- needing a headline with the conditions and the story of the day. I am going to let you do my job for me. Give me a good headline that would encapsulate what people are doing?

CASEY WEIDENFELD: Maybe battling in the conditions or battling in the wind, that type of thing. Because it is a battle today.
