T-MOBILE MATCH PLAY PRESENTED BY MGM REWARDS

April 4, 2024

Rose Zhang

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Shadow Creek

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Rose Zhang after her second round at the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards. Just real tough conditions out there today. How were you able to kind of survive this round?

ROSE ZHANG: Yeah, I tried my best to just be patient out there. Sometimes you see the shots and they clearly don't go where you expected them to.

But at that point you just have to accept where you are and be in the moment and try to just grind and get up and down.

That was mainly the entire mindset that I really had. So just continuing on that. You know, I feel like I'm very proud of how I was able to stay in the moment.

There are a couple things that I do wish to work on, but at the same time, you can't be too hard on yourself.

Q. That's what I was going to say, how do you keep the mindset of like knowing it's more than likely the conditions that are causing some of those scores and not beating yourself up when a shot goes errant or anything like that?

ROSE ZHANG: Yeah, like you said, it's very difficult to do so. You really have to just find that discipline to be able to accept all the results that are happening, especially in these tough conditions.

Ultimately, you know, the person who is most mentally resilient to all these conditions and also giving themselves the most grace, that's a really killer combo, and just something that you really have to have out here.

Q. Just two more from me. Very similar conditions tomorrow. What will you take away from this round in terms of preparation and how you execute some of your shots tomorrow?

ROSE ZHANG: Preparation is just to kind of reevaluate the entire round, figure out what I could have done better game plan-wise, and tomorrow you never know what's going to happen with the weather.

I heard it's actually going to be worse, so with that in mind, you kind of just have to accept what today's doing and then go into tomorrow fresh mind with a game plan in mind again.

Q. And last one: With the ANWA still happening this weekend, just how much of winning that event last year has helped you springboard the career you've had?

ROSE ZHANG: It truly meant the world. I knew it was going to be my last ANWA, even though people didn't really expect it to be my last one.

It was always something that I looked forward to yearly. I played it four times, and just being in that environment with that many people watching, it's a testament to the growth of the women's game, and I was honored to be a part of it.

So being able to kind of be under pressure and be the favorite, but also being able to get it done really meant so much, and it showed that, you know, the resilience was there, the grind was there, and gave me a lot of confidence going forward to be able to do what I can to be the best.
