AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 2, 2024

Ingrid Lindblad

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Just talk about today, the practice round, the familiarity with the course and what you mainly were looking at today to see what was different, what played how. How did it go?

INGRID LINDBLAD: We thought a lot of the pins today were pins that we were going to play for the rest of the week. Maybe not the one on 18, but a couple of them were like, okay, is this pin not supposed to be here the rest of the week?

So we kind of figured out a couple pins on the greens, trying to hit some putts to there, trying to figure out how much the ball is going to roll out on the green, if there is a difference from the fairway or the -- having a downhill putt downgrain versus an uphill putt and the grain into is such a big difference.

Like the downhill putts are so quick most of the time. Otherwise just it was nice going out there. You have seen the course a couple times, you don't have to think too much from the tee box.

Just trust the wind today because we had a couple holes on the -- I finished on the front nine and couple there, you got -- the wind is kind of swirling on basically 4 through 9 and you think you hit a good shot and you're like oh, the wind didn't pick it up.

So over the green on 8 because you want it to be into and you don't want to dump it short of the water. You'd rather hit it over the green. But it's kind of a little tricky, but just trying to figure out how the course is playing.

Q. There are a lot of veterans here who have been here three or four times. If someone at the dinner comes and asks for advice, what would you give a first-year player?

INGRID LINDBLAD: Probably not to get too overwhelmed and not make it too complicated.

You know, I usually say not to try to create a shot that you don't have, but on this course I think you might have to create a shot that you don't have in your bag. Just not make it too complicated. Enjoy it. Have fun.

You know, anyone can win. I said it yesterday. Anyone can win at this place.

Q. Are you the type of player who uses what happened last year as motivation by thinking about it a lot or do you just forget about it?

INGRID LINDBLAD: I think I just forgot about it. I think I rather just think about '22 or '21 instead.

I decided not to think about it too much, not spend too much time on what happened last year, and just go out there, try to -- it's going to be windy, so just keep the ball in play and try to shoot a low score.

Q. What's the biggest thing you did wrong last year that you can't afford to do again this time out?

INGRID LINDBLAD: I think it was mostly putting. I played well. It was mostly putting. I didn't make anything. It was like I got the worst possible score I could have gotten with the game I had.

Just focused a little bit today on similar putts that I had last year, kind of up, over a tee or something.

And just they're a lot quicker. Last year I was like oh, this putt is slow. It's not slow. Even though you have an uphill putt it's in the slow. So just spending a little bit more time on that.

Q. Is there anything with your putting that you've changed recently to try to get any sort of advantage?

INGRID LINDBLAD: Not really. Just trying to do the same thing. Not change too much.

Q. Do you think it's more green reading or speed or stroke?

INGRID LINDBLAD: It's actually been my aim. Been aiming way out right and kind of pulling them a lot. When my coach saw me when we played in Abu Dhabi in the fall, he was like, it looked terrible.

I think he said yesterday it looked a lot better than in January, so hopefully that will keep doing that.

Q. You obviously cruised in that second stage of Q-School. Having this extra semester to prepare for the LPGA, what part of your game have you been focusing on knowing what you need at the next level?

INGRID LINDBLAD: Just trying to minimize mistakes. Trying to miss it in the right spot. You know, don't short side yourself too much in spots where it's impossible to make an up and down.

So basically just -- haven't really worked on any specific part of my game. It's more kind of being more consistent and not making as big mistakes as before.

Q. When you were here last year, did you think there was a chance you would be back here again?

INGRID LINDBLAD: I actually -- when we played at Augusta on the Friday, we finished on 8, on the front nine. I told Kajsa who I played with, I played with her today, as well, I was like, yep, this is my last time here.

Chipped in for eagle on 8and I birdied 9 and I said, that's a pretty good finish at Augusta.

Now I get to play it again, so that's exciting.

Q. What was the best thing about your game at Sunset, the reserve?

INGRID LINDBLAD: My ball striking definitely. I think the least greens I hit one day was probably 14 or 15. Just I was always close to the pin. The first day I think I had 14 birdie putts within 20 feet.

Q. Wow.

INGRID LINDBLAD: So my stats actually said that I lost shots on the greens because I hit the ball so close to the pin, so I didn't make as much as they want me to I guess.

Q. Statistically was that your best ball 54-hole tournament ever, or no?

INGRID LINDBLAD: Probably. Close to it.

Q. Garrett would probably know that, right.

INGRID LINDBLAD: He said actually the men's assistant gets the text when we put our stats in and he was like, whoa, that was pretty good.

Q. You finished eagle, birdie when you played the last round at Augusta, was that right?

INGRID LINDBLAD: Yeah, last year.

Q. Do you remember how you made eagle?

INGRID LINDBLAD: Yeah, I chipped in on 8. They had the pin back left and I chipped in from the right side.

Q. Then what about the last hole?

INGRID LINDBLAD: I hit it to like ten feet or something. Maybe the putt.
