FIR HILLS SERI PAK CHAMPIONSHIP

March 23, 2024

Ruoning Yin

Palos Verdes Estates, California, USA

Palos Verdes Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. You were just talking about it, but one hole doesn't define the week for you. Just overall, how are you walking away from this third day here at Palos Verdes?

RUONING YIN: I mean, today overall it's a good day. I rate 8 our of 10 today because I hit really -- I hit a lot of really solid shots. Just had some bad luck on the last hole.

But, I mean, still have 18 holes to go and I just need one more good round.

Q. What were some of the positives, especially before the wind got too kind of out of control?

RUONING YIN: The wind is really, really, really windy today, and I think I handled it well. Made some good judgments with Dave.

I think -- I mean, I can't complain too much about today except the last hole, but I think overall I played well today.

Q. When it seemed maybe that there were frustrations, what did you think of to kind of make them go away?

RUONING YIN: Well, my mindset today is just it's windy for everybody. It's not just for me. If I'm going to make bogeys, other players going to make bogeys, too.

So just try to hit one shot at a time and just be patient. Just play smart.

Q. Talking to Alison Lee earlier she said it felt like every par was a celebration but a birdie was even better. Did it kind of feel like that for you today too as well?

RUONING YIN: Yeah, because some par-5s I was like -- because it's really windy, I'm not sure if my ball is going to check or not. I was just like, okay, let's just make a par here.

Because normally on par-5 my goal is always make birdies, but today it was like, just make par. Par is good.

Q. Which par-5 did you feel that way the most?

RUONING YIN: 14.

Q. Yeah.

RUONING YIN: Yeah, 14. And 16 is also a little bit, because today they moved forward the tee on 16.

But still a tough, tough, tough hole with that windy condition.

Q. Winning last year and doing well on this course last year, did you think of some positive moments from your win last year trying to get around the course, or was it just stay in the present, stay in the moment to get through these conditions today?

RUONING YIN: I didn't think that much because today is really tough day. All I think is just, well, even par is good score for me today. Just before I tee off that's my mindset, even par is good.

But if I can shoot one or 2-under, that's even better, yeah.

Q. When you look at the forecast for tomorrow, knowing that the winds are going to be picked up again, what do you focus on, not just that par is the mindset, but more of your play, what are some strengths you're hoping to take advantage of tomorrow in more similar conditions?

RUONING YIN: Well, I think two-shot lead is not big lead at this course, especially tomorrow it's going to be windy again. My mindset maybe I'm going to be a little more aggressive tomorrow compared to today, and I think just like I said, I just got to play smart and I'm going to put my 120% effort in it. If it turn out good result, that's good. If not...
