VALSPAR CHAMPIONSHIP

March 23, 2024

Cameron Champ

Palm Harbor, Florida, USA

Innisbrook Resort (Copperhead)

Quick Quotes

Q. Nice playing. Take us through that kind of a wild par to finish.

CAMERON CHAMP: Yeah, really just a bad approach shot. Had a good lie in the rough there. It was -- obviously, if you get it past that pin it rolls all the way off the green. So I was just, honestly, where I left it, I was perfectly fine with. That putt was just one, I knew it was all speed and it broke probably a foot and a half, if not more. So, again, it was -- the last, kind of my last nine holes I started rolling it very well and seeing the lines and my speed's been good, so again, my putter definitely saved me the last couple.

Q. Looks like you putted pretty well all week.

CAMERON CHAMP: Yeah.

Q. What's been the key there?

CAMERON CHAMP: Nothing. Just putting. Just keeping it simple. I feel like I've been putting good for awhile now. Just kind of stay away from the line, just kind of picking spots out, and just putting. Not being so technical with it, just trying to feel it out, feel the speed out and just hit it.

Q. How does it feel to be right in the thick of this thing?

CAMERON CHAMP: Yeah, I've been playing good. I have been for awhile, just nothing's really come of it yet. So, again, this week is a tough golf course, which I feel like suits me well, especially off the tee, around the greens, just, like, I'm very comfortable here. So tomorrow I feel like if I kind of keep doing what I've been doing, you kind of never know what can happen here.

Q. We're kind of looking through your scores, you have a bunch of missed cuts, but the scores seem like you're mixing in some nice playing there.

CAMERON CHAMP: That's what I mean. I mean, I missed four cuts by one this year so far. So, again, I'm not playing bad, it's been extremely frustrating, but again, that's the game. So you just have to keep plugging along. Kind of same this week, coming down, I was really kind of on the cut line until pretty much my last six, seven holes. Again, playing well, just wasn't really getting anything going. So, again, it's nice to be able to play the way I did, like I did on Friday, and then come out here today and just try to keep it going.

Q. What is it about your makeup that when you've gotten near the hunt like this you've converted into three wins? Do you feel a real good comfort level in that spot?

CAMERON CHAMP: I do. I like it. That's I think that's what we all play for. I try to just embrace it and, like I said today, again, I tried to be as aggressive as I could with this place. You can't really over power it. You can't really -- definitely can't over think it. You just got to go out and just play your shots and just take 'em when you can. So I feel like this week, even tomorrow, if I do that, and with how comfortable I am with it and the wind, and just trying to get myself in that position. For me, I think I just, I thrive for it, I enjoy it, and it's obviously exciting.

Q. What can you tell us about Chandler? How far back do you guys go?

CAMERON CHAMP: Oh, we go back. We were roommates in college for three years. Chandler's a good dude. It was awesome to see him finally get out here. I know he's struggled for a few years on the mini-tours and missing Q-School by a couple shots every year. Then he finally made it through and I knew that's all it took. Once he got through Q-School, I knew he would get through the WEB.COM, and he did that in one year. Then he's obviously had some good starts this year, and I'm not shocked that he's playing well here. So, again, Chandler's a great player. No, I know he texted me last night, I told him, Great playing, and he said, Man, try to catch me. And I said, I'll try. But super excited for him, him and his family and I think he's, I saw he was leading, so hopefully he can keep it up today.

Q. He was quiet with us yesterday. What can you tell from behind the scenes being his roommate? What's he like?

CAMERON CHAMP: I mean, we're very similar. I think we're kind of quiet just around people, but kind of when we're together or when we're around people we're comfortable with, we're all joyful and joking and messing with each other. Like I said, Chandler's a good dude, super happy for him and hopefully he can keep it up.
